“Old World”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

It is very interesting to see one of the original Icelandic settlements and read about all the intrigue, fighting and legends from this unique location. I have been here both in Winter and in Summer--both times of year have a unique charm. The museum is interesting and the old hot pot is also fun.

“Interesting place”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

It is the birthplace of Snorri Sturluson, and a fascinating place both culturally and historically. There is a church over a small museum, not incredible impressive, but absolutely worth a look. It is possible to take a walk around the church, and see the famous hotspring tub, and some archaeological remains. It was really windy and cold when I was there, so I recommend bringing warm clothes.
There was a small souvenir shop, but as far as I could see, nowhere to buy food.

“Nice cultural place near other attractions”
Reviewed 9 March 2013

Unfortunatelly the museum was closed when we visited Reykholt as it was October and Saturday. But we saw the church, Snorris bathing place etc. It was beautiful place but quite cold and windy at the time so we didnt spend there much time. A nice place to visit anyway, as it is very near the other attractions nearby as the hot springs of Deildartunguhver and the Hraunfoss and Barnafoss waterfalls. The water in the Snorris hot tub is quite cold nowadays, and it is unfortunatelly not allowed to swim there anyway, so don´t expect to take a dip there.

“Culturally significant but not masses to see”
Reviewed 19 August 2012

This is a very culturally significant location for anyone interested in the Icelandic sagas and is also a centre for research and study. i suspect many people visit to see Snorri's hot tub (as we did) which unfortunately was empty of water and being cleaned the day we arrived. The whole site/complex is a little confusing with no real signposting so it took us a while to find TIP: it is behind the main centre to the right of the church at the back. That said, there is a reasonable shop in the visitor centre and there are a few other things to see i.e. an old church and some turf covered dwellings on the complex.
