“BEST STAY IN ICELAND!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

Don't let the hotel's plain exterior fool you! This was our fourth of five nights in Iceland; Hotel Skogar was by far the most tastefully decorated hotel we stayed in during our travels and a very friendly staff. The rooms were large and clean by European standards. Our room had a balcony and a distant view of the waterfall.
We had a lovely and delicious dinner in their dining room. Both my husband and I had the lamb which was tender and flavorful.
A generous buffet breakfast was also served in the dining room.

Our guide booked us at the cottage property of Hotel Skogar. The house had 4 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Decoration was spot on farmhouse chic. Plenty of towels and comfortable sofas. But the mattresses were terrible and broke this stay. Even the view of the peaceful sheep grazing in the meadow in front of us could not redeem the stay. Previous to this stay, we were staying at a basic bed and breakfast with mattresses much more comfortable than here. Dinner was also not impressive. My cod was oversalted. The lamb was good but not great. What was most enjoyable was the horse ride from the cottage to the nearby Skogafoss waterfall.

We travelled as a camera club group on a 7 night trip around Iceland staying in a different hostel each night, and had our fourth night here. We were made to feel very welcome, the hostel was clean and modern. Only gripe was that the toilets/showers were at one end of teh building and the bedrooms at the other end. Breakfast was really good. We had a mix rooms and everyone was happy (except for the trek to the toilets). Right beside the waterfall!

What a lovely treat...we booked only a one night stay (as we are travelling around the 1 ring road) but wish all our hotels were like this, and will be sad to go, plus we managed to get a lovely en-suit room with breakfast for a very good and fair price, especially compared to many places in the area. The hotel is east to find with a beautiful view of the mountain and waterfall and had ample parking. The staff were very willing to help, giving us good advice and the room was lovely, of high quality and clean. the evening meal was slightly pricey at about 25-33 Euros for a main, but was excellent quality, so cannot complain. And the included buffet breakfast was of a high standard again and quite varied. Our only regret, was that we did not get there earlier, before dinner, to have time to relax in the hot tub and take in the views from there...but we probably would not have wanted to get out if we did! So all in all, this is a great place to stay, so have no worries in your choice and enjoy...we did! (written from the breakfast room and enjoying the view, as i could not wait to share my thoughts :-) )

My fiancé and I had a very nice and romantic trip to the South last weekend and stayed at Hótel Skógar. We absolutely loved the hotel, its cozyness, atmosphere, location and service.
We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant (by the fireplace!) and it was really delicious and well served.

Very beautiful location by the waterfall Skógarfoss and great nature all around.

We would absolutely recommend Hótel Skógar, especially for a romantic trip for couples.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Skogar 1 night last week. The room was nice, bright and clean. Food was delicious, portions were ample and service was prompt and cheery. For dinner we had the house recommended 3-course meal which consisted of an appetizer sampler platter(reindeer, goose and I can´t remember what the third thing was), lamb fillet for the main course and a huge slice of chocolate cake with dabs of ice cream for dessert. The breakfast buffet did everything we needed and had a nice selection of bread, cereal, yoghurt, cold cuts and cheese + OJ, water, milk and coffee. Our room was on the north side which gave us a beautiful view of the Skogafoss waterfall out of the corner of the window (albeit at an awkward angle :-) . Wouldn´t hesitate to recommend this cozy little 12 room hotel in the countryside for a romantic getaway or an overnight stop passing through. We forgot to bring swimwear so we didn't get a chance to try the hot tub or sauna this time around - but they looked comfortable and clean enough and the bathrobes in the room were a nice touch. Leaves us something to look forward to doing on our next stay :-)

If you are travelling East on your Icelandic adventure, then this small hotel is a great 1/2 way stop. Right next to the Skogafoss waterfall, in a small settlement. The food was limited but good and breakfast was varied enough but there was nothing hot. Staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there was a problem with the hot tub being not hot enough so I didn't fancy running through the snow to it! Very nice place though.
