Hotel Bergamo
Reviewed 28 August 2013

We spent seven days in this hotel after many years of travelling abroad for holidays, and we made peace with Liguria: we had vague recollections of shabby hotels, grumpy people and boring food. We found a very nice hotel, a newly refurbished room and a friendly staff ready to help with a smile. The hotel is nicely located on the edge between Cervo and San Bartolomeo (where since a couple of years there's a relatively large public beach), it is five minutes walk from the sea and also has a swimming pool where you can rest under the shadow of the pine trees. Everything is quiet and clean, and the guests are a good mix of old afecionados from Italy and groups of tourists from Northern Europe.
A special mention goes to the food (we had full board, at a reasonable price of 80€/day in peak season): the food was fresh, varied and very good, with highlights such as grilled prawns, swordfish and 'orecchiette allo scoglio'. The soups were also very good, they know how to cook them in Liguria. Only spot in the picture, the wine is too expensive, being outside full board.
They accept pets, which I appreciated a lot, but they seem to have rules so that nobody is disturbed.
To be recommended, for a week or ten days of total relax.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the main street (like ours) are newly refurbished, but can be a little noisy.

We spent one week at Hotel Bergamo and had an excellent holiday! The hotel is very clean and comfortable, the staff is very friendly and professional, the sea is very near and we also enjoyed the beautiful swimming pool. The food was superb and one evening they organized a Ligurian evening for us! Both the decoration and the food were fantastic, we had an unforgettable evening! And Hotel Bergamo can be a very good starting point for excursions to the region, first of all I suggest Dolceaqua, it is breathtaking! Diano Marina is very near, where you can find a sandy beach!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd or 4th floor offer beautiful view

I had the chance to stay once again at the Hotel Bergamo with my partner, since I loved my first time there. This hotel is two steps away from the seaside, they serve superb food, have clean and nice rooms and friendly staff. Those are the basic ingredients for a lovely stay. What is more I like staying by the swimming pool reading a book under a tree... It is like going out of reality. I've enjoyed my time there and will keep on suggesting it to anyone.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar but higher floors are the best!

The Hotel Bergamo is very clean. The staff are friendly and accomodating. There is a real family atmosphere and there seems tobe an excellent relationship between the owners and their staff. The food was good, though not always hot. This was rectified when requested. Although clean, the building was in a time warp. Money needs to be spent on modernisation.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the sea. You will avoid the noise of the trains going past the front. Corner s...

The hotel is a very well-kept and beautiful hotel close to the beach. The rooms are clean and nice, breakfast is good. The pool can be a nice change to the beautiful beach of San Bartolomeo. Also, the staff is very friendly and flexible. Guests are mostly Italian.

Only thing you have to be aware of is that Via Aurelia is a main street with a lot of traffic and also the train is going by very close. So you should not be too sensitive of noise.

The Bergamo hotel is a well preserved relic from the 1970's. It must have been a luxurious hotel back then, because it has got everything that would have made a perfect holiday back then: color TV, telephone and a hair dryer. All these appliances must still be the original ones, great retro stuff. As was the case in the 70's, there is no airco: there is however a ceiling fan, which brings down the temperature a bit.
We were satisfied about the cleanliness.
Staff is friendly: the women at reception understand English, the people who serve breakfast do not.
The hotel is located near the main road: ask for rooms on the back side, where it is more quiet.
Overall the hotel was OK for its price.

The hotel was badly in need of an update & refurbishment. Room quite dark, no light over mirror just light bulbs from the centre with fan above. Broken toilet seat which kept sliding & when one sat on the toilet your face was about 12" from the wall of the shower. That was my room but others had a bath tub, etc. My friend next door had problems for3/4 nights with either the fan not working or the TV not working. The food was poor, in that chicken, fish or meat were very dry with no gravy except for salds & tomato sauce etc. I found a piece of glass in my ice cream on the last night of my stay which damaged my molar filling & I had to seek remedial help from my dentist on my return. Also the noise was dreadful, from traffic and trains. This is more of a 1* hotel rather than an 3* which was described in "Just You" brochure. The owners were very nice but this does not compensate for all the poor conditions I've just mentioned.
