A very pretty town with views of Lake Albano. In the square there is a fountain, bars and shops, very picturesque. We visited the lovely Church but unfortunately the Apostolic Palazzo was closed. We were told that it can be viewed by appointment.

Nice quiet town for a short visit. Stop in the town square and have a cappuccino at Cafe Guiducci. Afterwards walk around the quiet streets. Finally take a drive around the lake, stop and take on the views. Very nice relaxing day.

The summer residence of the Pope is simply beautiful! It's a quaint little town which is worth visiting. Just stroll down it's cobbled stone streets and enjoy the view of Lake Albano as well.

Castel Gandolfo is a town located about short drive away (may be half-n-hour) from Rome. They say, it is considered one of Italy's most scenic towns and has a population of just a few thousand residents. Located on the hills it overlooks a lovely lake.
Within town lies the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo, the summer residence of the Pope. Although the palace is located in Castel Gandolfo, it apparently has extraterritorial status as one of the properties of the Holy See (not under Italian jurisdiction). The piazza (the city square – pronounced as ‘pjattsa’) facing the palace has a small fountain, a few shops and cafes around the square and has a very village-like atmosphere to it... gives you the feeling that the piazza itself is a small enclosed village… You could sit there enjoying a great cappuccino – I certainly did!
A hop, skip and a jump away from the square you find a breathtaking scenic view of the lake… A small drive away, we had a lovely authentic Italian dinner at rustic place.. great experience! An afternoon well spent!
