Two of us spent a week at Castelgandolfo Golf and Country Club. The hotel accomodation was quite basic, but clean and adequate, and you will not spend much time in your rooms.
A five minute walk takes you to the Golf and Country Club itself. Excellent facilities in the clubhouse, good food in the dining room. The golf course is quite tough going, and the grass seems to swallow the ball, so that even if you think you know where it has landed your ball may disappear forever! Great water holes at which you have to be extremely careful. Beautiful aspects from many of the holes.
Don't go in the hottest months unless you welcome high temperatures for playing golf. You will need a buggy. Staff very friendly and most spoke some English. At the time we went few Brits and Americans were familiar with the Club.
The Club is quite isolated so hire a car. Don't drive into Rome (unless you're very brave!) but use the local train, and visit the local towns and villages.
Good fun and well recommended.
