“Beautiful old palace with a fantastic view of the lake”
Reviewed 25 July 2013 via mobile

The hotel is a beautiful old building with a fantastic view of the lake. it's a bit worn down, but the rooms and the dining halls are still very nice. there are two swimming pools, one on the roof terrace overlooking the surroundings. it's a five minutes walk to the old town with some of really nice restaurants and the pope's palace. The staff is very service minded and friendly.

The view from the hotel was in fairness spectacular, however it was no different to the ones that we could appreciate from viewing spots in the town! We had booked a twin economy room so did not expect anything extravagant but we would have liked a door to our room that was actually possible to open - each time, we required assistance from hotel staff who also themselves struggled!

Inside the room, there was nothing luxurious at all and to top it off we had a shower which had not been cleaned and still had empty shampoo packets left from the previous people.

Prior to arrival we had rung up the hotel to ask about transport to the hotel, the person kindly offered to email us the number for the taxi driver they use, however no email was ever received.

Also on arrival we were greeted by staff, who I must say were very friendly and polite which was a positive! However we were told on checking in that our 'included breakfast' entitled us to one brioche and a tea or coffee - talk about pushing the boat out!

In my opinion you are better off not staying here if you are wanting to treat yourself, as other reviews have also said the hotel is very much outdated and in need of refurbishment! Although our stay wasn't wholly unpleasant and was very cheap the hotel was pretty much a bed for us to stay in!

Room Tip: if you are wanting a room with a view don't go for economy

We stayed there for one night. The hotel has the perfect location, wonderful views over castelganfolfo's lake. Terrible breakfast, and the hotel needs serious refurbishment. It is a pitty for it has everythung to be great. Despite booking's notice it has no covered parking, so if you are travelling with a motorbike choose other options.

The Hotel is in a wonderful location, and if you book enough in advance you can secure the lakeview room at a very affordable price. Staff are very friendly and helpful: Fabio, Luca and all the others (..sorry I dont remember the names, but I mean them all) made every effort to answer all our requests in the 4 days stay. Internet connection is good, if the entrance hall is overloaded there are 1st and 2nd floor networks available. The overall setting is awaiting a refurbishment, which once happened will see the price unavoidably increased, so personally I am happy as it is. I did not use the restaurant, but breakfast was very good, above average. The Hotel is a renoun location for wedding reception, which usually happen at weekends. I am personally not bothered at all by these events (..in fact I enjoy looking at them, and not be stuck in a suite having to be nice to people I barely know...). Anyway if you are the type of person who looks for a very silent resort it is better to check first. But it would not be in such premium spot!

Room Tip: Book as early as possible to secure a lakeview room, specify it in the booking and the staff will ta...

We had a wonderful 4 day stay here. The food and service was excellent, the views magnificent and the staff amazing. It is ideally situated for catching the very economical train into Rome.

We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have really enjoyed my stay at Castel Vecchio. Nice hotel, very kind service and fantastic location at the Albano Lake. Castel Vecchio is an excellent hotel at a very affordable price, just few minutes drive from Rome.
I will for sure return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lake view

I stay only one night in this hotel, was impossible to stay more.
The bathroom possessed a horrible sewage smell. I had headache because this.
The room is old and not in a good condition.
The restaurant is a trash. I paid 40 euros for the fish menu and was totally disgusting. I got sick because the food was spoiled.
The internet access is a joke. Works just on the entrance hall.
The young staff is nice, but the old staff is rude.
There is no noise police, was 11:30 pm and there were a religious group, singing and playing guitar in the restaurant that is very close to the rooms.
There are some rooms that are located underground and these are the worst. The restaurant is located just above the bedrooms, than you can listen every noise from the tables and chairs.
The only thing that is good is the lake view and the location.
I did a complaint to the staff about the food and I told them that I got sick. In this moment they started to say that the italian food is very heavy and the problem was my stomach. Unbelievable.
This hotel was one of the worst that I have stayed.
