This hotel and it's staff and food are wonderful.the rooms were clean, beds comfy if a bit hard and the view from the rooms is outstanding! I had the misfortune to have my purse stolen in Rome on the underground and the lady in the hotel was extremely helpful on my return. A 10min walk takes you to the centre of castle gandolpho which is a stunning small piazza with shops/restaurants & coffee shops (itailians call them bars). A further 15/20 min walk and your down by the lago(lake) with its sun loungers, market stalls and bars/restaurants. We indulged in the hotels fabulas meal on the terrace overlooking the lake, the food was divine and very reasonably priced for hotel guests.

Castelvecchio is splendidly located with several rooms with a spectacular view onto Lake Albano. Everything is a bit old style, but that was OK for us. Nice roof-top terrace with small swimmingpool (unfortunately still too cold in April). A nice party-room on the top-terrace as well, but that may cause some noice in the rooms below if in use.
Unfortunately the restaurant was closed the evening we were there (Easter Monday), but the dining room looked nice although menu a bit pricy.
Our room was good and quiet and splendid view. Breakfast could be better but otherwise OK for Italain standards.Price/Quality value was very good for the promotion rate we got.

Room Tip: aks for a lakeview room and make sure that there are no parties going on above yout room.

I have recently completed the first of my "Italy the Sequel" tours for my company Tours for Independent Thinking Women.
Our final night was spent at this hotel in relaxing, scenic Castel Gandolfo.
My review is as I wrote in the heading:
BEST BITS:
> wonderfully large bedrooms each with a big view of the lake.
> sumptuous dinner prepared with care and ceremony, for all 13 of us
> really good local wines included in dinner.
> helpful, friendly maitre d' and all staff.
ODD BITS:
> breakfast coffee was big clear plastic jugs of milk, black coffee, hot water, (going cold) on a table with tea bags behind! You could ask for a cappucino if you caught the over-worked waiter's eye- only a couple were successful.
> breakfast buffet: no fruit, 2 cereals (one of them; cornflakes), a bit of bread, powdered croissants.
> the overall appearance of the hotel is one of excellence 20 years ago & no work since.
BAD BIT: a function room on the floor above our rooms. Furniture being dragged across the floor up there until after 1.30am - result: cross women and very little sleep.(even after phone calls to the front desk!)
What a shame. It has so much opportunity to tick ALL of the boxes.

The location is fantastic, view on Lago Albano from some of the rooms plus breakfast/ diner hall.
Rooms need work urgently, it seems that the place is not really taken care of. Starting from cleanliness, floors, shower, shower heads to many other items, lots of things could be fixed to drastically improve overall appearance. Breakfast is not overwhelming but does the job. Have not eaten diner her, but seems there is guests plus weddings (nice location for parties). Price value is ok. Beds also. Good for a weekend, but I would maybe try a B&B in the center of Castel Gandolfo next time.

Room Tip: try to get lake view. fantastic.

The hotel is a beautiful old building with a fantastic view of the lake. it's a bit worn down, but the rooms and the dining halls are still very nice. there are two swimming pools, one on the roof terrace overlooking the surroundings. it's a five minutes walk to the old town with some of really nice restaurants and the pope's palace. The staff is very service minded and friendly.

The view from the hotel was in fairness spectacular, however it was no different to the ones that we could appreciate from viewing spots in the town! We had booked a twin economy room so did not expect anything extravagant but we would have liked a door to our room that was actually possible to open - each time, we required assistance from hotel staff who also themselves struggled!

Inside the room, there was nothing luxurious at all and to top it off we had a shower which had not been cleaned and still had empty shampoo packets left from the previous people.

Prior to arrival we had rung up the hotel to ask about transport to the hotel, the person kindly offered to email us the number for the taxi driver they use, however no email was ever received.

Also on arrival we were greeted by staff, who I must say were very friendly and polite which was a positive! However we were told on checking in that our 'included breakfast' entitled us to one brioche and a tea or coffee - talk about pushing the boat out!

In my opinion you are better off not staying here if you are wanting to treat yourself, as other reviews have also said the hotel is very much outdated and in need of refurbishment! Although our stay wasn't wholly unpleasant and was very cheap the hotel was pretty much a bed for us to stay in!

Room Tip: if you are wanting a room with a view don't go for economy

We stayed there for one night. The hotel has the perfect location, wonderful views over castelganfolfo's lake. Terrible breakfast, and the hotel needs serious refurbishment. It is a pitty for it has everythung to be great. Despite booking's notice it has no covered parking, so if you are travelling with a motorbike choose other options.
