Our family of 5 had a brilliant stay at Hotel Castel Gandolfo, thanks in large part to Gianluca and Adrianno. The hotel is clean, views of lake are amazing and morning breakfasts are terrific. We hope to be back there one day.

Elevator is tight, so use stairs where possible.. AC was a bit loud in one room, but there was great breeze off lake. It's a good 3-4km walk downhill to beach area (and up hill on way back!), but walk was enjoyable. Adrianno's restaurant recommendations were outstanding especially Cucina Romana (best pizza ever).

Castel Gandolfo is where you come to relax and unwind!

Room Tip: Spend the extra money to have a view of the lake. Rooms and bathrooms are typically European - good...

If you decide to have a quit & pleasant weekend or short vacation in the Castelli Romani area, you must spend at least a night in this very nice hidden hotel in the Pope's summer town. It is prefectly run by Federico, Gianluca and Tatiana, with an efficient and friendly manner; a bit hard to find nowdays. The hotel is smalland causy, similar to a small"Relais". The breakfast is very good with everything home made or very fresh. If possible try to get a lake view room as the view is stunning.
All rooms are small but fully equipped and very cleran. A real treat.

Room Tip: Get room n. 101 - the best.

This place looks out over the lake and has awesome views. And the staff is great and friendly. We opted for the better room to get the view. Well worth it and not a bad price for Italy. Just below is a restaurant recommended by the hotel. Not to be missed. Amazing food, and awesome views. Some of the best food we ever had in Italy. The hotel is quite small and very hard to find. Most of the streets in Gandolfo are 1-way and very narrow. GPS helps but be sure to get directions from the hotel before arriving. We would go out of our way to stay here, but only for a short visit since the town is really small , and you can see it all in less than an hour. This is a great place to stop in if you fly in/out of Rome.

Room Tip: Go for the view rooms.

Right off of the main piazza in Castel Gandolfo, within a minute's walk of the Pope's summer residence, is this very nicely appointed boutique hotel. It's small frontage makes it easy to miss and it is horrendously difficult to get to/park by car, but it is worth it.
The staff is VERY helpful and gracious and completely English-fluent. The lobby is clubby. The rooms are nicely sized, especially compared with the Italian norm. Our room, on the first floor had a nice sized balcony with seats and table and the view from on high - out over the lake was spectacular. One can sit and just watch the light change and the activities on the lake for hours.
Only drawback is the pigeons that fly around at close proximity, and their mess.

The town is a nice sized place, very pretty with a good piazza and church, but the real sight is the Pope's residence, with its coming and going activities. And the town gives access to the lake activities. Go on a weekday, as I've hears that the weekends are thronged with Romans escaping the city.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony - ask for #101

Following the drive from Rome's Fiumicino International Airport the locating of the hotel was a very interesting way of experiencing Italian drivers reactions to other motorists.
Acting to the letter the Navigation system instructions we found the hotel having driven up a long one way street only to find we were the ones going in the wrong direction !!!
The amazing thing was that the locals did not react in any way and even the manager said that guests were doing it all the time.
The hotel itself is a joy and the welcome from the manager was excellent. It is a great place to stay as Castel Gondolfo is such an interesting place.
Step outside the front door and you are straight away into history of the Pope's summer residence.
Had a room with a wonderful view of the lake. In the morning it was completely covered in mist. An hour or two revealed that we were perched at the side of the mouth of a volcano. Very impressive.
Nice continental breakfast with excellent customer service.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake side view. You will not regret it.

A really lovely hotel in the centre of the village, lovely, friendly and efficient staff. Rooms are spotlessly clean, great bathrooms and comfortable beds, fabulous views over the lake.
Excellent breakfast, simple fresh food and great coffee.
The food in the restaurant below the hotel is wonderful and again, those views - can't wait to return.
