Owner description: Longfellow House - Washington's Headquarters National Historic Site preserves the home of Henry W. Longfellow, one of the world's foremost 19th century poets. The house also served as headquarters for General George Washington during the Siege of Boston, July 1775 - April 1776. In addition to its rich history, the site offers unique opportunities to explore 19th century literature and arts. The site is now closed for the season. See the website for more information on programs and scheduling group tours.

The walking tours in this house are informative and timed just about right. George Washington used this as his headquarters. Longfellow lived here. And the family stories intertwining the two are fascinating. I highly recommend a visit here.

We loved this tour. Our guide was outstanding, even reciting some of Longfellow's poetry by heart. Great piece of Cambridge history.

We really enjoyed the tour of this home. The tour guide (Rob) was very informative and entertaining (even quoted Longfellow poetry on the tour!) and the house itself is spectacular. Many historical homes have "pieces from the period," but this home has almost everything originally owned by the family. With a collection of around 35k artifacts, it's quite an attraction!

I visited the home a few weeks ago and was amazed. The garden itself is a lovely place to rest. I didn't know much about Longfellow prior to the tour, but our guide (Anna...?) was so knowledgeable and passionate that I was a fan by the time I left. The house is worth a tour on its own, and its connection to Longfellow and Washington is an added bonus. I had some time to kill before the tour, so I walked about 5 minutes down Brattle St. and had a delicious lunch at a corner market.

The rangers are great! They know their history and make the tour interesting! The gardens are beautiful. The personal stories about the residents of this house make it very interesting. The house contains different objects showing the varied lives of its inhabitants.
