My kids and I rented two kayaks. We walked from Kendall MIT . We were given some safety information, life vests and we were set to go. Once we got to Charles River I got a bit scared as there are bigger boats and sailboats around, but there was no problem. The water does not look very clean...

“What a way to see Boston!”
Reviewed 31 August 2011

Last week a friend and I decided to join the Charles River Canoe and Kayak on a tour. We're both delighted we did. They're located right in Kendall Square (parking garage is right there too). Our guides were very informative and gave a short lesson to our group of 8 before actually kayaking. Some were novice kayakers and the rest of us have been more than a few times. The day was perfect - big blue sky w/a friendly, puffy cloud passing by from time to time. Our guides took us out by the Longfellow Bridge. We then heading down the Charles through the locks, under a train bridge and then the Zakim Bridge...then out into the Harbor. We viewed several dry dock areas from the old shipyard and then paddled over to view Old Ironsides...beautiful! Shortly after we returned by way of a new park area they've build by the Zakim Bridge - outstanding! The tour was approximately 3.5 hours and the guides were very knowledgeable about Boston's landmarks, history, etc. and both were very friendly and kept everyone's interest the entire time. A great day on the water...hope to go back and take the tour up the other end of the Charles - passing MIT, Harvard, etc.
