The quality of the sushi at this Porter Square staple has skyrocketed since the change of chef. They offer many daily specials from the sushi bar that are worth getting if you are a gourmet sushi eater, and they've added some dishes like a wagyu "loco moco" (burger Hawaiian style with a fried egg). If you're on a budget, you can still get the old combo platters and "set" meals, too.

Please check out the new menu.
It is such a great place to go for a business dinner or with family. Its not a fancy restaurant - but it is comfortable and feels good. The food is consistent and a good value.
Try to get a seat by the window, it is very pleasant.
We started with 50 pieces of assorted sushi. Each variety a delight.
YOu may want to consult the sushi chef to obtain his recommendations (be sure to tip him when leaving - it is customary)
The local mackerel was a winner, along with the yellowtail (hamachi) and tuna.
Then, we decided to order the broiled fish dinner set - which surpassed expectations and was reasonably priced.
We stuffed ourselves... and walked away very content.

Blue Fin has recently become a regular stop for us; we come back for the decent food and friendly, efficient service. I've tried the sushi dinner special (chef's choice; doesn't seem to vary much, but a nice selection of tuna, salmon, some kind of white fish, eel and glimmering orange roe) several times, and while it isn't the most mind-blowing sushi I've ever eater, it is consistently good and an excellent value. Aside from sushi, we've enjoyed the miso soup and the seaweed salad and the mackerel dishes we've tried, and our daughter loves the teriyaki beef, which comes with soup, salad and rice. The restaurant is tucked within the Lesley University Center building, so it's not easy to see from the street, but very conveneient to the Porter Square Red Line station.

My wife and I got home from our honeymoon today and for dinner we went to Blue Fin. We were tired but were having a wonderful conversation and laughing a bit when they accused us of being drunk. We left bewildered, unnecessarily shamed, and determined to never eat there again. In the past, it's been a place that we have shared with family and friends, but now we will be sure to let our family and friends know how they treat their loyal customers.

Here's where I go on a rainy afternoon for a grilled salmon ( or grilled mackerel) set, which includes sushi, shumai, rice, salad, miso. Comfort food for a non-Japanese woman. But there's always the same Older Japanese woman sitting at the bar, right next to me, eating the same food. It's a good place & not just for lunch.
