My wife came to Bluefin because we wanted to try another sushi spot. We arrived on a weekend night in the Lesley Univ building and it wasn't hopping yet but the staff at the restaurant were ready to serve. Our hostess, waiter, and order all came in prompt time. The gyoza was awesome and the sushi we ordered was good. If you're in the area definitely don't hesitate!

The luncheon special - broiled black cod was rich and buttery. Better than Chilian sea bass. The food is copious and of excellent quality. You'll find better yellow tail here than in Japan ! By all means order sushi and sashimi - the sushi chefs won't disappoint. Please tip them, as is customary in Japan. So happy to have this restaurant - which is an institution in Cambridge. Explore the mini-mall (ex-Sears building) - it has a multitude of Japanese restaurants and Japanese shops. It is like a brief excursion to Japan.

I recently had lunch here with a friend I hadn’t seen in several years. We chose Bluefin because of its location in the Porter Exchange in Cambridge—she had meetings at Lesley University School of Education, which also resides in the Exchange.

The other Japanese eateries on the ground floor are tiny, busy quick-meal places, meant to slurp up a bowl of noodles, grab some sushi, or eat other quick delectables, and go. We wanted to linger and catch up, and Bluefin, with its quieter, more roomy atmosphere, was perfect.

Our server was both attentive and sensitive to the fact that we did not want a lot of interruption. We both chose the Bluefin lunch combo with salmon teriyaki. It included miso soup, salad, rice, California rolls, shumai, and tempura. The tempura pieces (fish and vegetable) were coated with panko and not batter, which gave them a light, completely greaseless, and shatteringly crisp exterior. It was all beautifully presented and delicious.

We lingered past the restaurant’s 3pm lunch closing time to catch up on each other’s lives, but were undisturbed except for paying the bill. The prices here are understandably higher than at the quick eateries, but reasonable. With tip, each share came to about $15.

My only caveat: try to avoid being seated in a location with the window-wall directly behind one of you. That happened to us, and I was unfortunately the one opposite my backlit friend. Since the restaurant was not busy at that hour, I could (and should) have requested a table oriented differently.

The quality of the sushi at this Porter Square staple has skyrocketed since the change of chef. They offer many daily specials from the sushi bar that are worth getting if you are a gourmet sushi eater, and they've added some dishes like a wagyu "loco moco" (burger Hawaiian style with a fried egg). If you're on a budget, you can still get the old combo platters and "set" meals, too.

Please check out the new menu.
It is such a great place to go for a business dinner or with family. Its not a fancy restaurant - but it is comfortable and feels good. The food is consistent and a good value.
Try to get a seat by the window, it is very pleasant.
We started with 50 pieces of assorted sushi. Each variety a delight.
YOu may want to consult the sushi chef to obtain his recommendations (be sure to tip him when leaving - it is customary)
The local mackerel was a winner, along with the yellowtail (hamachi) and tuna.
Then, we decided to order the broiled fish dinner set - which surpassed expectations and was reasonably priced.
We stuffed ourselves... and walked away very content.
