By my standards, this was an expensive hotel - to the tune of 439$/night. By Cambridge standards it was probably fair.
Anyway, the hotel was as Marriott places go: friendly, well-trained and attentive staff all around, clean rooms and a convenient Starbucks situated in the lobby.
If I was very critical, I would say that the place could do with a brush-up - it came across as having been around for a while.
However, the location was superb for ny purpose (a seminar at MIT - a 5 minute walk away) and plenty of good eateries around.
Also, it is just a short walk to Beacon Hill and a slightly longer walk to Harvard - so for touristique activities it was optimal.
One thing that annoys me in certain places, this included, is the absence of a free wi-fi service. There is free wi-fi in the lobby but in the rooms you will be charged extortionate fees. Result: a large amount of time spent in the lobby reading mails and scanning the Net while this could be done in the privacy and cosiness of ones own room. There's free wi-fi in every Starbucks in the country and access to the internet is, these days, a basic necessity. So I cannot comprehend why such an amenity does not come at no charge in a hotel of this standard and price level. And it is a real drawback in the overall rating of the hotel. I suspect that it has to do with to aspects. One, prices on search engines appear lower this way. Two, being a business hotel it is probably assumed that one's employer pays whatever anyway, so what the heck! Having spent an entire section of my review on this small matyer, I conclude that it is a minor area to correct - but with a major impact.
Just to end on a high note: the hotel is right next to a metro/tube/subway station (the 'T') - this is a real advantage!
