We've spent twelve great days at Arbatax - Cottage in September, which were marked by the beauty of the natural park and the calm it brings to the hotel as well, the great beach/snorkeling area and a wonderful staff, especially at the Sa Gana restaurant.
The resort is really a haven away from everything else, it feels like a private island in a way, and I actually really enjoyed the walks up and down the hillside, or the transport provided when necessary. It's a different experience from standard four and five star hotels I've been at before, but wonderful nonetheless.
Although I was weary about the wifi after having read reviews, it connected fine for me both in my cottage, by the restaurant and at the beach, which was more than enough.
Main words that come to mind when thinking back to this stay are cosy (the little streets with small houses are lovely), charming, and an amazing staff.

We're looking forward to coming back!

The resort was beautifully kept. The room was well cleaned. Staff generally helpful especially the manager who was superb. Lovely pool and ocean access great.
Downside food often cold unless you arrived at the very start of the service. Food was lovely if you got it hot.
Lovely park adjacent.

On the plus side, the 'superior' cottages are located in a very pretty spot, just a few seconds walk from a rocky beach that allows a spectacular view of sunrise and sunset.

Having said that, even the superior cottages are very basic. There are insufficient outlets available, we had to rotate all of our phones, laptops, camera battery chargers one at a time using the single available outlet in our room. The circuit seems to be overloaded: seeing one of only two small lights in the bathroom to be dead, they had to come replace a light bulb for us, then the new blub blew within an hour of being replaced - this means the fitting or the circuit needs fixing. It's very difficult to manage in a dimly lit bathroom if you need to insert contact lenses or put on make-up, so I think this is a comfort issue.

The bed was basic, with a hard mattress and thin, hard pillows. The A/C was not working properly when we arrived (could not be set and the room was too warm), but at least this got fixed within a few hours.

The resort is reasonably clean, although the pool areas are rather basic and look dated.

I do not recommend the half board option. We had this and were assigned dinner at the Sa Gana restaurant, which was a canteen quality restaurant. I wish that instead of an all you can eat buffet, they would concentrate on set portions of better quality food. Eating at Sa Gana you really are missing out on the wonderful food available in Italy. We disliked it so much that we decided to forgo the included dinner and go into town instead.

We also tried the resort Su Coile restaurant, which you have to pay extra for and reserve ahead of time. This is essentially a pig roast high up in the resort, at a location with nice views of the town and coast, where one can dine on rock tables. That was romantic and the food was very good.

As many have noted here, the biggest pain at Arbatax is that you have to leave your car at at a lot near the entrance to the hotel. On arrival a van took us down to the Cottages, where we got check in and then told to wait for a motor cart to take our bags to the room. We asked if we could just get the key and take a few things there on foot, as we didn't want to wait. They told us we had to wait and be taken to the room ... so about 20 minutes later the cart showed up, and drove about 15 feet to the room!! We could have stepped over to it and been in there immediately instead of waiting by the luggage. This is a small thing but seemed ridiculous at the time. We were tired after the journey and could have been waiting inside the cottage for the suitcase, instead of in the reception area. Then during the stay, every time we wanted to access the car, we had to wait for the hourly tram up the hill, or embark on a very hard and steep walk - which was too much of a hike for most people, and which nobody would ever embark on twice I think.

The resorts insistance on using a pre-paid chip card inside the resort is also a negative thing. I had to pay a lump sum to get the card loaded, then as we tried to check out early and finally got up to our car with all the bags, was told I should have cashed out the chip card balance back down at the Tellis hotel reception (because it was early morning and the cottages reception was not open), not at the (open and staffed) reception near the park exit where I was asking. As I needed to get on the road quickly to catch a flight, and there wasn't time to hike all the way back down into the park to do that, I had to leave without getting the refund of balance on the chip card. What a pain! You should be able to cash out that card at any of the reception desks that are open.

The resort does offer free wifi, but nobody in the conference was able to get a signal in their room. I could get a signal in the reception area for the cottages, which meant taking my laptop down there once a day to read email. The wifi speed was very very slow and the signal prone to drop outs, which limited its usefullness.

Dear Tracey Ja,
thank you to spend your time with your important feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed our wonderful location, but we are really sorry that you run into several problems. We always give priority to our guests and their satisfaction to offer them a lovable holiday in every service that we make available for them.
We like that you tried our restaurant “Su Coile” where the guests could taste the real sardinian dishes. This is our restaurant that our guests can choose with an extra cost to put them in contact with a typical menu of our island. Infact all the other restaurants of each hotel have a international buffet that generally it is appreciated from our guests, expecially in Sa Gana Restaurant, because we always mix our local food with international course to offer a variegated choice.
The conformation of the territory in which the Resort is inserted, and the fact that the Hotel Cottage is facing the sea, surrounded by a natural park, is the reason that put the parking area not so close to the seaside (we specify that Hotel Cottage benefits of the closest parking area than other hotels). However to solve these inconveniences we managed to intervene by strengthening internal transport that have a frequency of half an hour (one hour during the lunch time). Moreover the staff is always available during his travels to give a lift to our guests.
Regarding wi-fi we clarify in our website that it is available only in the common areas and that there is no signal into the rooms. If we knew that internet was a priority for you for sure we could find a solution to help you to check your email.
Your feedback is very important for us to improve our offer, so we would like to thank you again.
We hope to welcome you in the future to offer you a wonderful vacation up to your expectations.
Kind Regards,
Guest Relation Manager

Where do you begin with this resort?
We had to wait an hour for the coach to leave the airport. Two passengers boarded then found they were on the wrong bus, then we all had to wait while the staff looked for two other passengers. It is a two hour journey to Arbatax.
Check in at the resort was fine, confusing as you are not too sure about anything and you begin to find out that not too many staff speak English.
Superior Cottage 711 was large but very dark inside. We wanted to change it initially but decided not to bother. It was rwo minutes from the sea. The room was kept lovely and clean and towels changed daily. The bed was hard but ok for us.
The site was fairly empty and we always had the choice of any spot in our bay or around the pools. Loved the swimming and snorkeling off the rocks.and the weather was perfect.
Now the food and beverages :- the restaurant was very handy to get to but the breakfast was "groundhog day" every day. Bacon, sausage and scrambled egg. No other hot food. So boring after a few days.
You could make fresh orange juice though (if the queue allowed). Lovely
Dinner was just ok, but not if you are a vegetarian. Sadly the hot vegetables were never very hot (oh for a microwave to use).
Sweets are the usual sugary creamy items but not fresh cream though.
It was nice to have wine and bottled water included though. There was a pay for wine list apparently but we never saw it or offered it.
A few staff speak some English. In peak season the Restaurant would probably be quite different as it wasn't very large.

The problem we found that drove us mad was the fact that nobody seemed to know much about what was going on. We were given much mis-information on entertainment programmes and when we went on the park ranger tour we found that a five minute Italian oration at the various stops became ten seconds in English, and was difficult to hear as everyone started talking amonst themselves. The Park was interesting to us though.

Getting on the return coach was "interesting" and badly organised so we departed late.

All in all we enjoyed the week but discovered there was not too much to do outside the complex. It is a good idea to have a list of Italian phrases at your disposal!

The airport was mayhem and BA started with just one desk open. It took us nearly two hours to get through and a group of us only just made the flight.

Now would we return?? Difficult to know, everyone we spoke to said they would not come back again. It does sort of grow on you and it was lovely and quiet.

If the management/owner would address certain problems it could be so much better. It is a unique resort but not four star.
Our advice, try it and see BUT do not go in high season.

Dear russelldavis933,
thank you for sharing with us your opinion, regarding your stay at Arbatax Park Resort. We regret for the inconvenient at the airport, sometimes a mistake from our guests, that disrupts the ordinary organization, it can happen; but we can't answer for an inconvenient caused by our guests' inattention. Regarding the room and the mattress, we are sorry if you found it hard. Cottage's mattress have been replaced at the beginning of the new season by the new ones, harder than the others because they are recommended to avoid back pains. We lament any difficulties we may have experienced when communicated with our staff. Our team, talk, at least, two foreign languages and we regret if you got the wrong idea regarding their skills, probably, you met some interns, that are with us to learn the business, but not everyone have the same professional skills. We are sorry if we were not able to fulfill your expectation in our food concept. We try to satisfy all our guests needs and tastes and we are sorry if in your case was not a total pleasant experience. It would be important for us giving you another image of the hotel, we'll invite you visiting us in the future to discover the real quality service that has always characterized Arbatax Park Resort. Best regards, Guest Relation Manager
