“Lovely/grumpy couple in charge, v clean & nr sea, reasonable price”
Reviewed 8 October 2011

The couple in charge are Giovanna - absolutely lovely - and her husband Giovanni (no joke), the grumpiest hotel host I've ever had. Three old chaps took a rollicking for being back late one night! But the free beach umbrellas, mats and daily papers made up for it, at v reasonable price.
Clean, decent rooms, tiled floors - it is better than dated ppics on website. 300m from sea with big balconies but air con only just sufficient in mid-Sep (our room was big one so might be better in smaller rooms).
Cala Gonone is a super base from which to explore - and Cala Mariolu will make real every Sardinian beach fantasy.

I booked a double room for single use at the Nettuno Hotel for 5 nights at the beginning of September. The hotel itself is situated not far from the sea9 6-7 min walking), but not in some excellent surrounding. It has also a garden with chairs and tables where one can rest. The view of my room was on the street and parking area, so enough noisy plus the "perfume" of the vehicles parked under my balcony. Overnight, anyway there was no problem with the sleep, and the bed was comfortable. Room is not something special, it is clean, that's right and that count most for me, it has TV a minibar (which is empty and in their information, and it is free for the water bought from the hotel they said they charge 3 Euro/day if you use it for drinks bought outside from the hotel (very curious i have to say - usually a 3 star hotel if it has a fridge, or a minibar, then such conditions have not to apply. In the room there is also a phone and the reception could open a line for you if you need to make local or international calls, also the reception will connect you if you are called from outside. Air condition is also provided. The room was not very large (comparing with the room in the B&B Dessole in Olbia - the room at the Nettuno Hotel seems to be a joke).Bathroom is large enough and also clean. Mrs. Fabiana at the reception is very friendly and helpful with all kind of information about the place. The room is equipped with electronic key. Breakfast is simple, italian style, if you want some cheese or ham you should ask for, because it is not exposed at the buffet, where only different croissants, different jams, fruits, coffee, tea. If the hotel didn't impress me much (it is average), Cala Gonone i is impressing for its unique landscapes. In the port you can book different trips by boat (to the Grotto Blue Marino - not to be missed), to Cala Luna or to other hidden beaches , which can be visited only by sea. Cala Gonone beach is not a sandy beach, only little stones and even broken glass, so for someone expecting that soft sands, it is disappointing. But the wonderful landscapes make all the money, those mountains descending softly into the sea, the unbelievable colors of the water. Also worth a visit is the Aquarium and the Museum of the Foca Monaca, the mammal which once inhabited the region. Close to the Hotel Nettuno is a supermarket, where you can find all you need. It is advisable to book the rooms long in advance, because even in September Cala Gonone is crowded and one could hardly find a free room -mostly at that very good price as at Nettuno. Actually a good accommodation place if you don't compare to something more sophisticated. I recommend it for short stays - not more than 5-6 nights.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony face the noisy street, rooms without balcony face the quiter garden

I stayed for 8 nights at the Hotel Nettuno in May 2010 with my girlfriend. We had a fantastic time and I can definitely recommend it.

Our room had a large double bed (not 2 singles), an en-suite shower room (no bath), a TV (just local Italian channels) and a lovely large balcony with a sea view. The room also had a small mini-bar fridge, which was quite handy for storing our own drinks in. The room and bathroom were spotless and were also cleaned every day.

The hotel is run by an Italian couple who are incredibly friendly and welcoming, although their English isn’t great. We paid 55 Euros a night and felt it was very good value for money.

Continental buffet breakfast was included, which consisted of croissants, cheese, ham, cereals, fruit, toast, fruit juice, boiled eggs, biscuits and rye-bread. They also made whatever coffee you liked to order, which was fantastic. There is also a bar and an outside sitting area, although we didn’t use either.

The hotel is very central and a very short walk to the three beaches in Cala Gonone, the central area and a number of restaurants. There is ample easy parking outside the hotel and there is good sized supermarket just a stone’s throw away.

The only downside of the hotel was that there was no air-conditioning (which might be a problem when it gets hotter). If we ever go back to Cala Gonone we will definitely look to stay at Hotel Nettuno.

Hotel Nettuno - we stayed for 2 nights in sept 09. hotel staff very friendly, breakfast quite good though one morning there were no crossaints left! Room very clean, quite large, a bit dated, good a/c and shutters. TV had just 4 channels. We didnt have a balcony ( most of the other rooms seemed to tho). Bathroom was the only downside. The layout was ridicoulous and must have been designed by an idiot! The bathroom was rather big so had room for the toilet, tiny shower, sink and bidet. The problem was the toilet faced the shower and actually touched it so you couldnt stand infront of the toilet unless u stood in the shower and when u sat on the toilet u had to either stradle it or put your feet in the shower! Useless! Cala Ganone itself is ok for a couple of nights. its a quiet little port town with a few bars and some very nice restuarants. I had one of the best pizzas ever at cafe banjo (or something like that) and also a very nice squid at Fronte Del Porto (which can be found n front of the port). The beaches in CG are not sand but quite big pebbles (the sort that are painful to walk barefoot on). We got a boat to The Grotto and Cala Luna beach then walked back over the mountains (took 3 hours) on an amazing but quite dodgy rocky cliff "path". Managed it in flip flops too (not recommended!). Anyway, we found this hotel exellent for the price (we paid about £53 per night inc bfast)

The hotel is located just five minutes away from the beach and the main road where all restaurants and bars are, but it is very quiet road. It is run by a very friendly and helpul family. The rooms/bathroom were clean. There is a little garden at the entrance with tables and arm chairs which is great if you want to relax in outdoors. Good value for money.

We stayed at the end of July 2009, in a double room with breakfast. Rooms are small and clean, with bathroom (no bath). Owners are a lovely couple who will do anything for you. Breakfast consists of croissants, bread, jams, cereal, fruit, tea and fantastic coffee.
Its about a 5 minute walk to the seafront, and one of the beaches. The Marina will take 10 mins and there is another beach 10 minutes walk away from the town. The hotel will lend you a beach chair and an unbrella for the mid day sun. Reception is open daily from 8am to 12am, after that the doors are locked but you csn request a key to get in and out.
We got a bus from Olbia Airport at 12:30am which arrived at 14:30, at a cost of 15 Euros per person (Deplano) is the bus service. A atxi would be at least 100 Euros.
This hotel is well priced and has a relaxed atmosphere with very friendly owners - worth a stay.

Have just returned from an enjoyable week in the Nettuno. As stated in previous reviews, the rooms are fairly basic so if you are the sort of person who likes to spend a lot of time lounging in your room, don't bother. But for going out and enjoying the resort, it is ideal. Rooms are cleaned daily, with fresh linen and towels. Small fridge in each room. Air conditioning is smooth, adjustable and quiet. It's in a quiet street, the only noise you may hear is other guests (but apart from a screaming baby one night, there was nothing to complain about). Five minutes walk from the beach, and the hotel can supply you with an umbrella on request. Free onstreet parking right outside. Breakfast has fresh watermelon, croissants, rolls and crispbreads, plus various spreads, and all the coffee (or hot chocolate, or orange juice) you can drink. Book directly with the hotel for the best rates, they also offer 10% discount for stays of five nights or more. Although it helps to speak Italian or French to the owners, you can get by on English (just).
