“Lovely hotel opposite the beach”
Reviewed 17 August 2012 via mobile

We arrived for a four night stay in the middle of ferraagosto - European summer holidays centering on the traditional August 15 festive day. The hotel is situated conveniently opposite the beach and close to both the town conveniences such as the tourist office and the tabacchi as well as the bars, restaurants and beach areas in the other direction.

The staff, mostly young women, were friendly and glad to try speaking English, even when they didn't know it well, with at least one member speaking very good English. The hotel interior and exterior was nicely presented and even a little bit cool and funky with modern abstract art on the walls, nice high ceilings like most buildings in southern Europe and was clean and modern, with card access to rooms equipped with electronic do no disturb displays.

The breakfast was good too - delicious Italian cakes and cornetti (filled croissants), cereals, every flavour of yoghurt you could hope for - including coffee! - and preserved fruit to go with it, and English-style boiled and scrambled eggs and toast, as well as, certo! - Italian coffee made to order and brought to your table. The girls serving breakfast weren't quite as friendly as the front desk staff, but they were fine.

Unfortunately, there is no dedicated hole parking, and it is very difficult to get one of the free spaces in the side streets, but parking directly out the front was 6 euros a day, so not exorbitant, plus the reception staff will happily provide you with change for the machine.

You can also conveniently book a boat trip on the "puma" to the area's beaches at reception, and the price at 45 euros a head for the whole day compares well with the competitor companies situated at the port. The hotel will also provide a packed lunch, if requested, for 8 euros a head, comprising of two filled rolls - delicious! - fruit, cheese and lovely cold bottled water, in your choice of still or sparkling.

I would definitely return and recommend this hotel to others.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for five nights at the end of June. We first stayed in one of the family rooms (room 78) - an amazing room, spacious and with a beautiful view of the sea (sea view even from the shower!). After a few days we moved to one of the hotel’s double room (room 80 - I think it was a ‘premium’ double room), which was also very nice, but obviously smaller than the family room. The family room was only 10 Euros more per night, so go for the family room if you can, even if you are just two people.

The hotel is very good – clean, helpful staff, cool art on the walls, close to the beach and a beautiful roof terrace with sun loungers, a swing sofa, tables and chairs.

The breakfast buffet was ok, but nothing special. Would have been nice if they had some more fresh fruit.

There are a couple of dogs in the house next door. They seemed to spend most of the day and evening on the balcony, barking like mad. Quite annoying.

Parking is a nightmare in Cala Gonone but there are free parking spaces on the street next to the hotel.

Room Tip: Go for one of the family rooms even if you are just two people. And make sure you get a room with a...

We travelled a family of four. Our room was a very nice familyroom with a doublebed and 2 bunkbeds. Wonderful view from the large balcony. The breakfast was a really nice buffet and the beach was 2 minutes away.

We couldn't have chosen a hotel with a better location, just a few seconds walk from the beach and on a strip of many restaurants and gift shops. Not far from the tourism services for boat renting (strongly recommended), boat tours, horse riding, snorkelling/scuba diving etc. The service here is great, everyone is so friendly and helpful e.g. they gave us cutlery when we went for a picnic, had things translated for us when they couldn't explain in English and kept our ice cream in their restaurant fridge until we needed it. Our room had a great view with balcony, I strongly recommend a room with balcony and sea view. The bed was a good size and everything was clean/comfortable. There was a small TV with one channel in English (that's ok, you don't need it anyway!). We had dinner once in the hotel restaurant, not because we didn't like it but because there were so many places to eat there. The crab penne was amazing and also lots of cocktails to choose from. The tiramisu was also one of the best I'd ever had. For all of this the value was excellent and we would definitely return and recommend to everyone we meet. Cala Gonone was the best holiday ever.

Room Tip: Room 56 on the first floor - balcony with lots of pink flowers and lovely sea view

We stayed there for the first 3 nights of our Sardinia-holiday - and didn't regret one minute. Mainly because of the room (no. 79) - with a small balcony opening up over the sea! Neat and clean hotel, nice breakfast (but some not so friendly girls serving there in the mornings...) - with a focus on energy-efficiency, which we appreciated very much!

Room Tip: Rooms no 78 or 79 - top floor, sea-view! Just great.

The Cala Luna is a stylish and extremely comfortable hotel in a fabulous position right next to the sea. The beach outside is really good - great for snorkelling and swimming and nowhere near as crowded as the hotel's namesake. The restaurant is excellent. We took half board most nights and were extremely well fed. The room (78, the best in the hotel) was perfect, with a breathtaking view of the sea and two balconies, slightly shaded by bougainvillea. You could have a shower while looking over the ocean. The one problem: a couple of the breakfast waitresses are bad-tempered and sometimes actually rude. They can't stand it when you sit at the wrong table. Trouble is, it's not obvious where you are supposed to sit, so unless they change their arrangements or just lighten up a little, they are always going to be in a bad mood! It sounds a bit petty to mention this, but it does kind of ruin your day when you are trying to have a nice holiday and the staff are rude to you. I would give this hotel top marks if it wasn't for that.

Room Tip: Choose room 78 for two balconies and a fabulous sea view
