We went there with my wife and 2 years old child for family vacation. In general this hotel is not prepared for very small visitors - no playground area, pool with separated part for children but too deep for 1-3 children. The hotel has extremaly beautyful location (views are amazing) and the beach well separated and used almost only by hotel guests (no rush typical for many beaches reachable for all tourists. The food is very good and various (except breakfast - but thats typical almost everywere:)
This prefect location has also one disadvantage - lot of stairs you need to walk everyday from room to dinner, for me was a challenge and sport activity but for weakest people - women with children, older people this could be a nightmare.
The hotel is clean, rooms are nice and people are frendly but only few communicate in English.

Just arrived home from a wonderful weekend at this lovely hotel. The view is AMAZING and so is the hotel. Suits if you wanna just get away for a couple of days to relax.

The food were great, the staff was very service minded and the entertainment were fun ( but in italian).

A perfectly located resort on one the most beautiful beaches of Europe, however the rooms are not THE BEST, they are clean and fine, the extraordinary view covers everything. Food is perfect -except breakfasts- , staff are kind with the least English knowledge though! beach and pool are enjoyable enough.

My husband & I booked a last minute holiday through Travelzoo to escape the British rain. Unfortunately two days after we arrived,Sardinia was.hit by torrential storms so bad that it dominated the.news! But despite the horrific weather we had a wonderful time at Castelsardo Resort Village.
We were staying in the 600 block which from other reviews sounds like it has been recently refurbished. it was really clean and comfortable. We were right by the tennis court and my husband took advantage of the free coaching most mornings which is included in the club membership which is an optional extra. I think it was €6 per day each which also included sunloungers, canoes, use of the pool etc. We probably didn't get full use as the weather was so.bad, but we didn't mind paying it as the holiday had been so cheap.
The beach is really pretty- one of our only gripes was the life guard just lay in the shade, although the beach could have been much nicer if someone spent time cleaning it up. The sea had washed up natural debris but it would have been much nicer if it was brushed away.there was also old ropes and broken chairs etc. which could have gone.
The staff in the restaurant were really friendly despite them not speaking English. There was masses of food and choice and generally it was very good. They had obviously taken on board comments about fresh fruit as it appeared at a lot of meals. But I have never understood the continental sweetened fruit juice!
I would thoroughly recommend a stay at Castelsardo.

My husband and I got a travelzoo deal staying a week (last week Sept), as it turned out last week of season and hotel closing around us! Forget 4* as others have said. Best - 1.Excellent refurbished rooms (100/400,500,600), king bed, power shower, bidet etc all have lovely views of sea/cove. 2. Position on north coast overlooking Castelsardo with good tennis court, beautiful little beach and nice (non tiled) pool. Food was pretty good, buffet style (buy your own fruit), best were pastas and hors d'oeuvres. 3. Peaceful outside August.

Worst - Don't accept original rooms 200-300 as no glass in windows and like shacks. In August Italians come here in numbers on holiday and there is lots of entertainment. If you like lots of people, speak good Italian and want to join in that would be the time to come. Otherwise avoid or ask for rooms away from pool. It does have a flavour of Butlins actually as the original buildings - including reception and dining room are like a holiday camp. I think improvements are being made slowly, maybe there will be more over this winter. It is owned by brothers who also own the Hotel Bagabaga just over the main road. This has a very different ambience, much more stylish. Only a few rooms but lovely views from the breakfast area and restaurant and amazing food! However no pool, tennis court or beach. The room standard is similar to CRV as we asked to see one.
Definitely need a car or motorbike to enjoy touring the region. Good for fit couples/friends but not for young families (steps basic and rough) or infirm/elderly for same reason.
We felt the main problem was communication. ie Hotel staff did not communicate well with visitors about how it functioned, trips, changes to services etc. We were the last to leave and the loungers were all suddenly removed from the beach with no notice, tables and chairs and pool loungers similarly removed. We had no hot water for the last day and reception was not open! However we did have our last 2 meals at Bagabaga which was a bonus!

Room Tip: 100-110 good views Castelsardo - above dining room. 500-505 & 400-405 excellent but nearer pool...

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Castelsardo Resort Village mainly due to the beautiful setting but found that the accommodation and service was not what you’d expect from a 4 star hotel.

The Good:
The hotel has a lovely beach just a short walk from the resort and most bungalows have unspoilt views overlooking the sea in a quiet, pretty location.

Despite the dated dining room, the food provided (we were HB) was better than we expected although I would recommend getting to dinner early as most of the best dishes are finished by 8pm. There’s plenty of choice and it’s great that you don’t have to queue for the buffet. Breakfast is the usual selection of cereals, fruits, yogurts, croissants and cooked breakfast (try to avoid the rubbery scrambled eggs!). There’s plenty of choice at dinner from cold starters inc. lots of lovely seafood, various pasta dishes, hot main dishes (although the meat was often tough and overcooked) and a selection of desserts and fruit.

The Bad:
On arrival our bungalow floor was flooded following some rain earlier that day. The staff did notify the cleaners who soon came and mopped it up but we received no offer of another room and were left with damp towels on a wet floor - fortunately for us it didn’t rain again.
The bungalow we were in was very basic and resembled more of a stable than a room as it was quite dark with no windows and the rooms are not provided with any seats or table which would have made our stay a bit more comfortable. The tv from our room was also missing and we only had one chair to sit on the terrace despite being a room for three. Our towels were also not changed when requested and just hung outside to dry.

We found that most of the staff did not speak English which was generally fine, but this became a little frustrating with simple daily requests such as getting a pass for sunbeds and were often responded to with blank looks from staff which appeared quite unhelpful. With the exception of the restaurant staff and Elisabetta on reception, other staff members were generally quite unhelpful and unfriendly with a lazy attitude.
One evening due to our taxi driver not showing up we were left stranded at Alghero Airport. We hoped the hotel could help us find out where our taxi was/how to get back only to be left hanging on the phone and they even hung up on us! When we eventually managed to speak to someone, they were unwilling to call the taxi driver (that they booked for us) and had no other advice other than being told ‘take a taxi 100euros is not that much money’ (!!).

The small additional costs here and there were quite annoying and not necessary. It just seemed to complicate things for guests and create a lot of admin for their staff.

Tips:
* Hire a car/scooter to get around as taxi’s are extremely expensive (100-120Euros from Alghero airport to hotel) and buses are infrequent, especially off-season. There are lots of lovely beaches along the coast which would be easily accessible with your own transport. Otherwise by foot you are limited to the hotel beach, Castelsardo town and around the resort.
* The main town of Castelsardo is a 20-30min walk from the resort along the main road.
* Taxi’s to the airport can be booked by the hotel reception but try to find other guests who you can split the costs with.
*And finally, lower your expectations!

I’m usually not one to complain (especially as we got a good deal on the holiday) but it’s such a shame that the resort doesn’t live up to its 4 star promise as it has so much potential.

just returned from this so called 4 star hotel. in reality 2 star would be more appropriate. the hotel badly needs refurbishing and the older rooms are extremely basic and would barely qualify even for 2 star rating. The food was plentiful during our stay but always cold. Hidden extras include paying 3 euros per day for the entertainment which left a lot to be desired, 2 euros to sit on the balcony to eat at mealtimes. English guests are left to try to make sense of what poor entertainment there is as all "shows" "quizzes" are solely in Italian with no consideration for English guests who wish to join in and have paid their entertainment fee! I suggest the hotel closes its doors and invests monies in upgrading fixtures and fittings throughout the whole hotel as in its current state they should taken to task for advertising this as a 4 star establishment.

Room Tip: insist on a room which has been upgraded
