“Nice place but awful host and shameful breakfast”
Reviewed 12 May 2013

We went there in May 2013 for a night. OK, the place is beautiful, with a nice view from the room over the beach of Portixeddu. Note that the rooms are dark, and TV and toilet flush did not work (room 307).
However, the host could not have been worse, he seems to do whatever he can to make you feel uncomfortable.
First of all, when you arrive, he simply doesn't talk, even in italian (we speak italian). No info, nothing, you have to do a lot before hearing a sound coming from his mouth.
Then, same problem during dinner, and moreover he sits in the TV room and instead of having a romantic dinner you listen to italian TV.
FInally, breakfast is poor, even a one star hotel would propose a better breakfast. No bread (only two crispbreads Mulino Bianco), awful industrial fruit juice and a defrosted croissant... Moreover, while the sun was out and there was a nice terrace outside with a wonderful view, the host decided not to open it and everyone had that poor snack in the dark room used for dinner.
In other terms, find a less expensive hotel, and you will still enjoy the view over the beach when you'll go to the centre of Portixeddu or when you'll drive up in the hills.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 days in September. The roughest part about the stay is the first portion of the driveway, but it wasn't impassable. A totally doable drive if you have any skill behind the wheel whatsoever (it is quite bumpy though!). We were warmly greeted by the owner, and despite there being a huge language barrier, he treated us nicely and with respect. Our room was clean and comfortable and was serviced on daily. Nothing to complain about! It had one of the best views I've ever seen in my life! It was close to the beach in Portixeddu and not far from the towns of Nebida and Buggeru...all having terrific terrific beaches. If you are wanting that "huge resort" feeling, this probably isn't the place for you. BUT if you want to have a supremely relaxing time in an enormously beautiful location, this is a must. We plan on returning as soon as possible! The cost of meals was also very economical and the food was delicious. We did not experience any of the 'rotten food' written about by the other reviewer.

It seems like the most beautiful places on earth are over-run with tourist, a quiet spot like this is really one of a kind: removed, tranquil, breathtaking views.

PROS: The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. Spotless cleaning daily of the rooms. Only 14 rooms and is set a few miles from any other buildings. Great dinners with local fish, meats, and homemade desserts. Amazing views from outdoor dining patio and several of the rooms (I think 101-104 or 105 have sea-views but all the rooms have amazing countryside vistas) Access to unspoiled beaches and much less density of tourists. The beach stretching between San Nicolo and Portixeddu is described in Lonely Planet as "one of the island's most magnificant" and is only minutes away. Some days we shared the 3 kilo beach with only a handful of other people, unhearded of really for beaches in Italy in the summer. Beaches of the Costa Verde- Scivu about 30 mins, Piscinas 45 mins also amazing and not over-crowded.

CONS: None for me! But see below for things that may bother other people.

You will love this place if you like natural beauty, relaxing, animals trekking, are laid-back and love good food and wine.

This place may not be for you if you enjoy activities, amenities, resorts, upscale dining. There were a couple nights when I had to wait for hot water. There is no bath-tub. There are sometimes insects in the room because it is a very natural setting. Also the owner has two wonderful dogs. I did notice a dropping or two during the 10 days, but they were promptly cleaned up. The driveway is unpaved and difficult to maneuver. Rental cars beware

Room Tip: 101-104 best views
