“Beautifully situated hotel off the beaten track with stunning views.”
Reviewed 15 June 2013 via mobile

Just spent a quiet week at this wonderful hotel which sits alone on the hillside almost two miles from San Pantaleo. If rest and relaxation is what you are looking for, then this hotel fits the bill. The location is beautiful and grounds well tended, with tennis courts and a splendid pool and pool bar below the hotel. But be warned, because of its location, it wouldn't be great for those with mobility problems. We had half board and I can't imagine that anyone could be unsatisfied with the menu. There was plenty of choice even for vegetarians and you can't often say that abroad. The drinks were reasonably priced too, wines being only a couple of Euros more than in the supermarkets. The staff were friendly, but as the majority if guests were German, they do initially assume you are too, but were then happy to speak in English or answer in their native language when I wanted to practise my rather rusty Italian.
The shuttle bus runs frequently to the lovely beach, which has a cafe bar with toilets, but that's all. The bus only holds eight, so if the hotel is busy, you might have to wait for transport.
San Pantaleo is a reasonably easy walk by road, there being a small sort of pavement by the roadside. You can also get there by a track, although it's rough walking but pretty. There are other walks in the area, but they are not well marked and it's easy to get lost (my husband ended up rock climbing when he went solo and lost his way).
San Pantaleo has a few nice cafes and restaurants. The Thursday market is worth a visit.
There are trips you can do from the hotel, but they're very expensive and it would probably be cheaper to hire a car for a week from the UK and do some exploring on your own. If you get easily bored, you'll definitely need a car.

A car was a must for us because of it's location 2km from village or beach
There was a hotel minibus that went to the beach ( which was beautiful) several times a day or to the village! But other bus services to go further afield were a bit sporadic...
Wish we'd taken a kettle as because part of the day the only bar open for coffee or drinks was near the pool which was a hike down the path through the rocks. I wouldn't go there if you are disabled and would like to use or sit by the pool regularly!
Car hire expensive starting at 50 euros a day plus insurance
A nice pleasant hotel, plenty of food but for us got a bit boring by the middle of the week...wonderful self service coffee machines though for breakfast.

Room Tip: Nice sized room ours overlooked the garden with no balcony or veranda..room 116 which seemed to be o...

Small cluster of apartments on a hill overlooking some fantastic sardinian coastline. A few other properties around the location but not so you would notice them. Definitely need a car. the hotel was located about a mile away - but not easy to walk there. You can use the facilities of the hotel - which included a lovely pool, with bar, seating in a lovely shady area.
the apartment we had was on the first floor and included a large balcony, large open dining and lounge area and two double sized bedrooms each with a bathroom. The furnishing was simple and used some traditional furniture which gave it a typical italian feel. the kitchen was very small and simple (microwave/grill, fridgefreezer, hob, kettle) but fine if you went out for meals. In fact the hob didn't really seem to work well. Overall the apartment was fine for us, a few maintenance issues were needed eg knobs falling off and a broken drawer and one basin was getting blocked. I think the hotel could do better - there were no towel changes or sheet changes in the whole week, and it would be nice if there was a tea towel and bin bags etc. We were asked to put down a deposit of 150 euros in cash, which was returned at the end. You needed to sign a contract which had a detailed list of items (though not accurate), and air conditioning was an extra 85 euros (we used it in september). There is a small pool at the aprtments, we used it once and then went to the hotel or beaches. We booked through sardinian Places and they provided a goody bag on arrival which was great - nearest shop probably a couple of miles away.

My fiancee and I stayed here for three nights at the beginning of July. The room was an ok size, however the shower was small (you keep hitting your elbows on the glass). There is an air conditioning unit and ceiling fan in the bedroom? The former of which would keep the heaviest of sleepers awake so we had the worst three nights sleep of our whole holiday. The temperature from the air con is centrally controlled so it is kept at a constant 18 degrees.

We decided to dine at the restaurant for our first night, beware it is really expensive for the food you get, a meal for two came to 75 euros. When you look at the menu there are no prices next to any of the food, and before being served any food they make sure to bring over the order and get your room number and signiture. The restaurant staff were rude and rushed us through our dinner. We were assumed to be German and it took a while for the realisation that we were english. We did not even get to choose our desert (there were two choices only) we just had one put in front of us.

We ate out the other two nights which was much better. In terms of access to local restaurants/bars you have drive everywhere and a taxi to the local town San Pantaleo we were told would be 50 Euros as it has to come form Olbia first.

The night time entertainment was a singer who only sang in Italian and the bar closes at 11:30.

This definately is not a place for young couples, there is nothing to do here during the day, we went snorkelling and explored the beaches instead. And the resturant staff and other guest were so rude we didn't look forward to coming back to the hotel.

We will definately not be back to this hotel. We wished we had stayed at our original hotel.

The Rocce Sarde is my 'home from home' in the most gorgeous setting. My husband and I have been visiting Sardinia for seven years and this is a perfect family hotel and yearn for each yearly trip. The pool is amazing and in such a beautiful setting, the value is excellent especially compared to other local hotels and the food delicious - all in all a great package.
The only disappointment on our last visit was the reception staff who were very efficient but not particularly warm and inviting - rather business like. Also the rooms have not been re-decorated since our first visit and although they are nice it would be great to see a change! Would be good to have free wi-fi too.

This hotel has a "package holiday" feel to it.

Nice grounds but disappointing rooms and lobby/restaurant area.

Unfriendly staff.

Also a long drive from the coast.

This hotel is ideal for peace and relaxation whilst having easy access by hotel minibus to the beach. With a car the whole of the northern half of Sardinia is in easy reach and roads are generally quiet, although the journey through Olbia at the end of the Italian holiday was a nightmare, but that is once per year!

Rooms were comfortably furnished and we had a super sea view balcony ideal for evening aperitif or just sunning.

The grounds and pool are quiet.

Breakfasts were adequate although the "topping up" of the breakfast buffet was a little slow. Dinner selections were always good and the special Sardinian evening really good value.

Staff were helpful and pleasant and the barman at the pool became such a good friend that we were even teated to a farewell drink.

The hotel may be noisier mid summer but was just ideal for an Autumn break.
