Such a lovely hotel. Food amazing. Local town five minute walk to reasonably priced bistros. Hotel runs a mini bus to the beach twice a day. Staff very polite and friendly. Rooms well furnished. Bathroom had a lovely powerful hot shower. Pool area immaculate but could do with some umbrellas.

We are not normally hotel people - but loved this stylish and imaginatively designed hotel which unusually is better than it looks on the website.
We had a room over reception with a decent balcony looking to the road - cul de sac - and not at all noisy. The balcony faced west so was good for drying bikini/towels - discreetly - in the evening sun as the temperature was over 30 every day. The room had the other benefit of being directly over the wifi area so we did not have to sit in reception as other folk seemed to do.
The only down side was the hard bed.
Bathroom modern and well tiled - good toiletries.
There was an immense range of food at breakfast - catering for different nationalities. Had crispy bacon and scrambled egg every day.
The evening meal was expensive but good and imaginative food and the waiters were very sweet! Very pleasant open air Dining Room, albeit not much of a view.
Short stroll into the village where there were plenty of other eateries - craft shops, dress shop, and the Thursday market - get there early as coach loads arrive from the coast. Good if you fancy a fur coat or cashmere - in that heat? - but expensive.
Car hire a must - but take care to pay for parking at the beaches - otherwise you will get fined.

we needed to de-stress and this is just what we did. Hotel lovely and rustic, excellent staff and the location just fab. There is a mini bus that will take you to the beach but you need to book it the day before. Doesn't run on Thursdys. Hire a car for For a few days if you can to explore this lovely island.

Lovely pretty village, great market on Thursdays. Recommend hotel restaurant, cafe nina, pizzeria Nico and the restaurant that does grill and fry. The owner is the menu and will tell you what he can do for you.

Just great!

Room Tip: Rooms are simple but clean and roomy.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a peaceful retreat in a very traditional and unspoilt area of Northern Sardinia. Lovely pool, excellent food both at breakfast and in the evening, also just a sort stroll into San Pantaleo village where there is a wide choice of local restaurants and a couple of bars. Thursday market in the village is a must! No tack, just good quality, often Italian hand made clothing and jewellery. The hotel run a daily mini bus to a local beach approx 10 minutes away which is very nice with good value beds and a restaurant / bar. Seemed almost 100% locals on the beach which is a good sign! Many other guests rented a car which is probably advisable, but arrange this from home as the hotel / local rate is quite expensive (approx 80 Euros a day for a Corsa). We managed to tag on with another very nice couple we met there so we saw a few other beaches around the area which are outstanding! Another recommendation is a boat trip around the local archipelagos which have stunning unspoilt beaches. Would recommend the Virginia motor yacht from Cannigione or Baja Sardinia. Cost was 40 Euros each and this is an all day trip so take some lunch and water, though they serve very good food and ice cold drinks and ice cream are very reasonably priced! Get there early and nab a place on the top sun deck if you can!!

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony if you can! Most views are stunning as you are high in the mountains!!

Having booked our dual country holiday (three nights Sardinia and 4 in Corsica through Corsican Places,) the hotels were already selected for us. The Arathena is situated on the edge of a small village, San Pantaleo, which has some recognition by the Sardinial Tourist Board. A bit more prominent signage on the various approaches to the village would have helped. This will probably happen soon with more and more visitors. It is as previous posts submit, a lovely village with various restaurants, ice cream and bars and the locals are very friendly. Fortunately for us we had directions from the C Places and we had purchased a good map... the one way village system didn't help. However, the village itself is located in the hills/mountains of Sardinia with the beaches only 15-20 minutes away. I would urge anyone with restricted mobility to think twice about staying here as rooms are accessible by steps and stairs with the exception of the dining room, reception and bar areas. Whilst this makes the hotel more 'interesting in layout' it is hard to see how it could cater for wheelchairs etc. Having said that, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and the manager on duty even carried our luggage to our room. We had upgraded to a room on the side overlooking the lush greenery and dramatic skyline of the rocks. We did have a small 'balcony' but it was not really fit for purpose in size or location as it was over the kitchen area.. I had hoped to get a balcony proper, however this did not really detract from the room. Plenty of fresh towels every day, bathroom had been recently upgraded, decent shower etc., and the toiletries were acceptable. We had fresh linen after two nights which was a nice touch. Spotlessly clean well kept. The food in the restaurant was amazing, and although not cheap, was worth every accolade going. The waiters, each of them were friendly and efficient without being over familiar. We took on board all their recommendations and were not disapponted once! Even the breakfasts were a delight with so much choice ...my only down point was the swimming pool area .... not enough sun beds and shades, and those they do have need chucking out and replacing, with some decent pads. Also some pool towels would be a good idea. We loved it here for our short introduction to Sardinia, despite the hotel offering a shuttle to the beach, I would recommend hiring a car, and do it before you get to the hotel as the daily rate according to some other guests is a complete rip off. You do need a car if you want to explore the area which we did as not great beach lovers...
Would thoroughly recommend..

Spent a week in this delightful small hotel set in one of the prettiest small towns in Sardinia, The hotel is a visual delight with a multitude of outside staircases and rooms on different levels, There is a lovely pool an upper levels with terrific views, the staff are friendly and helpful, The room we had had a balcony, good ac and a bathroom that had a 1st class shower room. You could dine inside or out to the lovely scent of jasmine.

Just go!

On a two week tour of Italy and Sardinia, Hotel Arathena and San Pantaleo were the absolute highlight. Set in an absolutely beautiful village in the mountains, this hotel is an absolute gem. Everything from service to looks and food was top quality.

I'd encourage anyone to hire a car in Sardinia as there are some great places to see.
