The parking is free as is admission. I went with two young children and we spent about 35 minutes inside. They enjoyed seeing the small-scale version of the Wilson house and we drove by later that day. They enjoyed seeing the historical items, however there was not much hands-on. There were some dress up costumes that they liked.

What a surprise! This museum was quite a bit larger than expected. Lots to see - both fixed exhibits and some that change. Staff was wonderful, it's free, and very interesting! All of us enjoyed it a great deal!

Come to see the remnants of the Miller & Rhoads Department Store, once such an icon of Richmond.

There are exhibitions and displays which will keep you happily occupied for many hours.

Well worth a stop when in Richmond.

When visiting Richmond I always check out the website for the Virginia Historical Society. Great exhibits and a calendar that has something for everyone from the history expert to the kids. The more serious student of history has archives to request, the culturally interested visitor has some of the best exhibits in the country to see.
