“great collections of articfacts and art”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

The VHS includes incredible collections of books, art, and artifacts, with displays well-organized and easy to view and understand. The exhibits are changed on a regular basis, so no two visits are the same. Wonderful way to spend a few hours in Richmond.

“Virginia should be Proud”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

Outstanding exhibits and presentations - all very well laid out and displayed with easy to understand descriptions that also try to give the context behind the exhibits. This is a true Virginia-oriented museum which is awesome for amateur historians, political junkies (lots of Virginia politics and exhibits), and the genuinely new to Virginia. Building is kind of imposing, more like a government library type facade and it would definitely benefit from having a more inviting entrance. But once inside, the exhibits are well-chosen, well researched, and very well presented. Outstanding and knowledgeable staff provide great context and insights.

“Great idea to pair with Fine Arts Museum”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

Located on Boulevard Avenue next to the Virginia Fine Arts Museum, this is a great experience for those who are interested in historuy. You can start with a short film that gives an overview of Virginian history and then tour the exhibits. This museum includes some very good civil rights history for the state and the City of Richmond. Best of all it has free parking and free admission.

“Wonderful history of Virginia!”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

This is well worth a visit while in Richmond. We were going to visit the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (well worth the visit) and found the Historical Society right next door. We weren't expecting too much but enjoyed this more than the Museum of Fine Arts. The extensive display of Virginia history is excellent. We wish we had more time but were rushed so we have to go back to enjoy more.
