“Quite a good museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We encourage everyone traveling through the Richmond, Virginia area to stop at this museum. We finally got there on our third trip, and it deserves more attention than that. There are profound exhibits and good details from the full span of 'western' history, plus even more from earlier eras.

Parking is easy, it's in a good spot to enjoy other historic parts of Richmond.

The Virginia Historical Society is a wonderful place to visit and see the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. There is an exhibit of silver pieces from the War Between the States that is stunning as are the art pieces. There is also a great gift shop where you can find many many great gift ideas.

Today we toured the special exhibit of Th Jefferson artifacts on loan from Massachusetts wheere his granddaughter lived. Her descendants donated all these items to the Mass. Historical Society. A wonderful silver exhibit, and toys are coming soon.

“Wonderful presentation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2016

We spent about 90 minutes in the Virginia history rooms on the 2nd floor and couldn't really get through it all. Fascinating and solid presentations starting with early native American settlements and European and African arrivals onward thru the centuries. Will return.

“Why did it take me so long to get there?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2016

An in depth history of Virginia but so varied that no matter what your interests may be the Virginia Historical society is a place to visit almost monthly. I saw the settlement of Virginia, the NFL (yes football) Experience, and a live presentation by Bill Lohman and Bob Brown on the Backroads of Virginia. Can't wait to go to see the original hand written copy of Constitution by Thomas Jefferson as part of the Private Jefferson exhibit until Jan 2017. The best part is the Museum is free with a slight entrance fee for the special exhibits. Any one in the area should become a member as the special exhibits and speakers are then free.
