The journey across the rapids along a bridge that is strapped to a major roadway is just part of the adventure. Now if crossing a bridge over the rapids isn't your cup of tea, no worries the City of Richmond has you covered. The James River park system along Riverside Road takes you to the same sights. What to see? If history is your vice there is plenty to see: old mill, previous slave quarters, and jail system. The island also was an iron mill and use to have a horse race track way back in the day. Now if nature is more to your liking there are bald eagles and their nest, plenty of walking paths, hills with views of the waterway, and large rocks (pending no floods) which allow you to sun bath or have a picnic. Two suggestions, the park is limited on refreshments so bring water and I strongly suggest leaving a few hours prior to dark.
