“wide, fast flowing”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

A impressive fast flowing river, with rocks opposite Richmond that make passing it with a ship impossible, so George Washungton designed a canal system to bye pass the city and link the the river to another river, the Kanawaha, which was a key development for the City's trade. Sadly the canal is out of action due to la k of funds for repairs. Further along, between Scotland (a small comunity) and Jamestown/Williamsburg there is a free car ferry crossing I recommend if you are in that area.

“An awesome outdoor recreation paradise”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

What an amazing place to spend a couple of hours or the entire day!
From the canals designed by George Washington to the historic remnants of Belle Isle, this area is a great tourist destination. It is also a huge hit with locals.
There is some unbelievable mountain bike trails, climbing routes, jogging trails, a pump track and many places to just kick back in or out of the James River

“Be prepared!”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

We went today to hang out on the rocks. We entered at 22nd st. There is a port-a-pot and water fountain. The trails were littered with trash- beer bottles, cigarette butts, cups etc. Lots of teens and 20 something's hanging out. Wear sneakers for walking on the rocks and walk with care, lots of slippery areas. Also, bring water and towels. We will visit again when it's a little cooler.

“Take a river boat tour”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

The captain.was knowledgable and the history of Richmond was fascinating. We met people from all over on our boat and everyone enjoyed the experience. Here's a tip: be the last to enter the boat. We went on first and were crammed in--knees touching the person across from us. If the boat isn't full then you have a space of your own. The guide was not just knowledgable but entertaining as well. Take your camera!. Great for families.
