Owner description: The White House and Museum of the Confederacy are located in downtown Richmond's historic Court End neighborhood, just a few blocks from Capitol Square. Guided tours of Jefferson Davis' executive mansion leave from the Museum lobby throughout the day and typically last around 45 minutes. Three floors of exhibits in the Museum chronicle the war years through the personal belongings of Confederate leaders like Robert E. Lee as well as those of common soldiers and citizens on the homefront.

A wonderful resource for those interested or immersed in the history of the South and the Am. Civil War (war between the states). Lots to discover and learn.

“Great museum and Whitehouse tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2012

My husband and I thoroughlly enjoyed the time we spent at the Museum which, depending on how long you want to look at each item and read the information may take a 1-2 hours. He is a history buff and was very fascinated with all the artifacts. I find it quite incredible how anyone survived during these terrible times. We also thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the Whitehouse of the Confederacy, which is next door to the museum. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered all questions without hesitation. We were very glad we decided to find the Museum which is located in an odd, out of the way place. However, once there we parked and came through the hospital, the worst of which was trying to figure out the elevator which seemed to be backwards and people told us to go one way, then the other - that was very confusing while we were going up and down several times.

“Small museum, Good displays”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

The musuem was hard to find since it is basically surrounded by a hospital. The museum was smaller than I expected, but the displays were good, very informative and comprehensive. The house tour was wonderful. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. Not only did he cover the history of the Davis family, the war, their home life before, during and after the war, but we had a tour with 2 very inquisitive kids on it. They had a question about everything and he had always had an answer for them. He was even able to answer their questions about the Davis family pets and he had great stories to go along. Great tour.
