“Jefferson is Southern all the way”
Reviewed 12 October 2012

We were nearby visting DC and decided on a side trip for a couple of nights to go and experience the south. The lobby areas are amazing -over-the top-southern opulence. I wish they had retained the alligator pond from long ago and stocked it with robotic alligators created by Disney. The restaurant is not to be missed. Decor and service are extraordinary. Food is very good too-we even tried some of the southern dishes on the menu.

Room Tip: tell them you want a room on the front of the hotel looking out over the front doors.

They have been doing this for over one hundred years and they are doing it right. Stayed for our anniversary and the experience was special from the moment you arrive. The valet greated us warmly and quickly got us inside. Check in was smooth and pleasant. The front desk attendant gave us a great room. The room was beautiful and absolutely spot less. The robes are the most comfortable I have ever experienced. A special treat was the shuttle service that was offered to take us down to the Shockoe and pick us up later. Nice leaving the car but still being able to explore Richmond. Drinks in LaMaire were fantastic. They had a special on apps and champagne drinks, along with domestic and craft beers. We went down to TJS for a nightcap and the bartender even hooked my wife up with a bag of popcorn to take up to the room.

The bed and linens are fantastic.

I used the fitness room and it had a great range of cardio and weight machines.

This is truly a five star experience and one that you must experience. We will definately be back.

We've stayed here many times over the past sixteen years, and each visit seems to be better than the last. The service, appointments, decor, and atmosphere are outstanding in all respects. Understated grandeur is how it is best described. The brunch on Sunday is astounding.

Everything you expect from a Five-star hotel property and more! Add the Jefferson Hotel to your list of places to see in Richmond and, if you really love yourself, add the pleasure of a stay!

My husband and I treated my parents to a trip to Washington DC for my father's 70th birthday during their visit, (to North Carolina) from Monterey, California. Since The Jefferson Hotel has long been on our own list of places to stay, we used the trip as the excuse we needed to make it happen! We made Richmond our half-way point, touring Jefferson's beloved Monticello in the early evening and then staying overnight at The Jefferson Hotel. Our only regret is that it was only for one night!

Pat, (Ms. Pat Coles) at the front desk was incredibly welcoming and when I unfortunately had to report that the toilet in our room ran all night long, she quickly and without further discussion made a $50 adjustment to the charge.

To celebrate my father's birthday, The Jefferson Hotel upgraded my parents to a junior suite, which included an over-sized, jetted tub... Perfect to soothe my mom's tired feet after all the walking we did at Monticello. Room service staff spoiled my father with a delicious piece of chocolate cake and two bottles of chilled Pellegrino. I requested the complimentary upgrade and birthday amenity for the reservation I made for my parents prior to our arrival; however, given how responsive she was and how warmly Pat embraced this special occasion our family was celebrating, I'm almost convinced it would have happened without my asking!

We unfortunately did not dine at The Jefferson Hotel... Following our tour of Monticello, we stopped at Richmond's Short Pump Town Center Mall, (fantastic shopping!) on our way back and decided to settle for the California Pizza Kitchen there. It was yummy, as usual - but it in no way satisfied our craving for the experience of dining at The Jefferson Hotel. Just another reason on our very long list of reasons to go back!

Room Tip: Inspect your room as soon as you arrive (early, if possible) - While the room for my parents was rea...

We've stayed at the Jefferson several times and have always had a good experience. Both the main and lower lobbies are so beautiful. Since we were traveling with our daughter and two granddaughters, aged 3 and 10 weeks, we had a jr. suite which worked out really well. We took the 3 year old swimming in the relatively new indoor pool - we were the only people there and she had a blast. The staff is lovely and very friendly. Since we were in Richmond for a wedding, we only ate breakfast at TJ's, which was fine. We will defenitely return!

Room Tip: Can get a little noisy on the street side.

We stayed here the weekend of September 14-16 for my niece's wedding which was held at the hotel as well. The hotel is very historic having hosted 12 presidents, including President Obama, and has been in operation since 1895. There are those who believe the grand staircase was the model for the one featured in the Atlanta mansion sequences of "Gone With the Wind".

The public spaces are beautiful, and include a gorgeous stained glass ceiling and windows in the lobby, decorative carvings on ceilings and gold leaf ornamentation, mahogany paneling marble columns.

The rooms, while small, are nicely furnished with comfortable beds which are triple sheeted along with a chair and ottoman, desk area, minibar. The closet includes a safe, iron and ironing board. There is no drawer space aside from the nightstands.

The bathrooms are marbled and come equipped with good blow dryers, shower cap, sewing kit and shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

There is an indoor pool with a small outside patio area with about 6 lounge chairs and round table and chairs. A nice touch.

The only criticism we had was that our room was not serviced on Saturday, the day of the wedding, and we were out all day and put "Service Please" signs on our door handles when we left for the day. This was a bit of an inconvenience as we were trying to get ready for a 5:00 wedding service. On of the couples who traveled with us, had to vacate the room while the staff cleaned it. And this was at 3:00 in the afternoon. We opted to just get a change of towels as we were pressed for time.

My sister, mother and I went to the salon to have our hair blown out for the wedding. I was told that the space was under new management and recently renovated. It offers Aveda products. Aside from our appointment times changing at the last minute, the stylists did a fine job of making our hair look good for the wedding.

We went to the lounge at the hotel's restaurant, Lemaire for pre- and post-wedding cocktails. On Friday afternoon they were featuring a happy hour with $5 Cosmopolitans which our travel companions assured us were very good. The wait staff provided little dishes of smoked Virginia peanuts and an assortment of olives for our nibbling pleasure. It is a very comfortable spot for a cocktail.

We asked the concierge for a recommendation for a breakfast spot in the area and he suggested Perly's a couple of blocks away. What a great recommendation! It was delicious, very reasonable and quite funky. Wish we had gone there on Saturday instead of eating breakfast at pricy Lemaire.

There is an evening turndown service and they provide you with chocolates on your pillow. A nice touch. The valet service was good and not too expensive, at $16/day.

We all promised ourselves that we would definitely stay here the next time we visited Richmond. You won't be disappointed!

Just returned from a wonderful stay at The Jefferson. I have been wanting to stay here for years and we decided to make it a special evening for my birthday celebration. The service was outstanding and the food delicious. I love the character of this beautiful hotel. Nothing like it.... It was perfect for a elegant way to celebrate. The dinner was so delicious, as was breakfast, for which we ordered room service.
