“View from the pool”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

I had the chance to stay here on a snowy March day, which meant no one was using the indoor pool. I wandered around the charmingly creaky halls, following the smell of chlorine, and discovered a positively breathtaking view. I stood in the wonderfully warm pool area and watched snowflakes fall over downtown Richmond. On a warmer day, I imagine it would be just as lovely to sit on the deck and take in the view.

Thank you for your review. The indoor pool is one of our favorite places within the hotel too! It's peaceful, always toasty warm and the view of downtown is charming. We hope you'll return this winter to enjoy the pool.

Not only is this hotel magnificent, the staff is outstanding. We were there three nights on a Tauck tour and enjoyed every minute. The food and service are excellent. The menus have specialty items, e.g. Shrimp and grits with eggs, or egg whites with smoked salmon and salsa on an English muffin for breakfast, the best fried green tomatoes, autumn pears and duck confit or crab cakes for an hors d'oeuvre. The more traditional choices are also superb. Yet the best thing about this hotel is the terrific staff and service.

We stayed here as part of a tour and unfortunately for only one night, but it is a beautiful hotel. The pictures of it do not do it justice. And the dinner we were served as part of the tour dinner in one of the meeting rooms was fabulous.
Seep in the luxury and history with a cocktail in the bar.

Love staying at the Jefferson when in Richmond. Staff is very attentive. Rooms very nice and quiet. Unfortunately this trip their latte machine was broken.....Starbucks about 2 blocks away in VCU building. Breakfast great but their grits are more like cream corn than rice grits. Had a great dinner around the corner at Tarrants - our friends had dinner at the hotel the night before and figured out that they apply the Hotel & Convention tax to meals - so you get tagged for an extra 10% or so.

Thank you for your review and for your return visit to The Jefferson. Our apologies that the latte machine was broken during your stay but are glad that you enjoyed the new Starbuck's in the neighborhood. Thank you for also meantioning the meals tax in Richmond as it a good traveler tip for everyone. The state sales tax rate in Virginia is currently 5.3% and the city of Richmond tax rate on meals is 6%, totally 11.3% on all meals served within the city limits. (Please note that taxes in the neighboring counties will differ slightly but all the downtown restaurants would be the same.)
Thank you again and we look forward to your next visit to The Jefferson!

We spent two nights at The Jefferson and had a great stay. The hotel is rich in feel and history. Be sure to check out the mini museum on the lower level. We booked a studio suite to have more space and our room had a nice sitting are and large marble bathroom with a corner tub and separate shower. The service was excellent at the hotel from valet parking to check-in and the bell stand. We had appetizers and drinks both nights at the restaurant so we'd have a chance to try a wide variety of their offerings. Nice martini and wine lists! We ordered room service for breakfast both mornings which was a treat. They provide shuttle service to many restaurants as it's quite a walk. A very comfortable stay with very clean rooms and comfortable beds!

Room Tip: If you want extra room then book a Junior Studio or higher suite. We couldn't ever hear anyone i...

The most gorgeous interior throughout this historic hotel makes you feel that you have gone back in time. The paintings on the ceilings, the detailed woodwork, the furnishings, the grand staircase are a must see. You must reserve Sunday Brunch at TJ's to enjoy the grandeur vibe and the wonderful food.
Christmas time the entire hotel is decorated like a masterpiece. All ages love a holiday visit to the Jefferson. i have been coming here for years and always look forward to coming back.
70 Rooms are now in the process of being refurbished, which will give the rooms the updated look and feel they need.
The service is quick and attentive. Hurry and make your holiday reservation.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor for the view and the light.

Very luxe vibe from the moment you arrive until you leave. Both lobbies and the connecting Grand Staircase are beautiful and interesting to look at. Bellmen and valets were top-notch. Front desk staff is professional and courteous, but a bit lacking in enthusiasm. Property is very well kept and clean. Governor's Suite (Room 449) is large and pretty but the bathroom is super-cramped. Nothing special about the toiletries, sink or tub/shower.

Linens, towels, and bathrobes were all first rate. Housekeeping was friendly and efficient. Room service was quick and cordial. Restaurants and bars were elegant, high quality and reasonably priced.

There are a few decent restaurants and lounges and good shopping within a mile..

Cons: considerable traffic noise. Small, unremarkable bathroom relative to the rest of the room and hotel.
