“A Richmond Classic, Certainly Deserving of its 5 Star Rating”
Reviewed 27 November 2006

The Jefferson Hotel is a Richmond Classic. This magnificent hotel captures the historic spirit of America. In fact, the Jefferson is the only hotel in the world to host every US President.

Every staff member at this hotel is determined to service the guests to utmost perfection. It is rare to see this at an individually branded hotel; rather you would expect this from a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton affiliated property. The Jefferson has been rated Mobil Five Stars and AAA Five Diamonds. Achieving both of these designations is a rare distinction.

The location is somewhat distant from Richmond’s major attractions, but I felt that the service, charm and history made up for this. You can expect a five to ten minute drive to Richmond’s more popular tourist’s areas. For business purposes, the hotel appeared to be quite central to numerous downtown office buildings.

The Rooms at the Jefferson are spacious and well appointed. Don't expect the newest in decor or feel, as the building was built hundreds of years ago. That being said however, rooms were well appointed, and offered numerous modern conveniences. Bed comfort was excellent, with fine linens and down comforters.
Our room, a studio suite, featured a small but nice bathroom with a bathtub/shower combination.

Food quality was excellent throughout the hotel. In room dining was also superb. The hotel is quite famous for it's Sunday brunch, as well as high tea in the lobby.

While staying in Richmond, you won't be disappointed with the Jefferson. This is a unique American Hotel experience, which was worth the added cost. Relative to other major cities, our rate was a great value for a hotel of this caliber.

This hotel was so nice. I stayed there during a business trip. My room was huge. The bed was so comfortable with the softest sheets and pillows. There was a bathrobe on my bed with some chocolates and the weather forecast for the next day. The bathroom was immaculate. Full of toiletries. The hotel had a great gym and if you needed additional equipment, there was a gym across the street that guests have access to. There was also a great indoor pool. The food at the hotel was great. This is definitely a 5 star hotel.

If you are visiting Richmond be sure to check out the Hotel Jefferson. The Rotunda & staircase are awesome! I had always heard that the staircase was the model for the one in Gone with the Wind, but learned that it is not true. Still it is something to see. At the bottom of the stairs to the left are some cabinets full of memorabilia from the hotel & the many famous people who stayed there. It is a fun place to wander about & absolutely free. If you have a lot of money, it might be nice to stay there too.

Twoi couples spent two nights at the Jefferson in Richmon, VA. This was a special time to celebrate, and we made the most of it, including the $225.00 per night rate. Room 511 was VERY spacious and well-appointed and clean. Plenty of bathroom and makeup space for man and wife. Bathrobes, minibar, wireless Internet, florist, business center, magnificent 1895-1905 architecture, Mobil 5-star, AAA 5-diamond.

A minor problem with a light switch was resolved in minutes! No request was too large, and promptness by all hotel staff was amazing - and appreciated.

Meals are excellent. Parking is available, either personally or by valet. The Concierge Desk was superb! Helpful at every turn. Free transporation is available - delivery and return - within a three-mile radius of the hotel; that incorporates many, many sights and restaurants.

We'll be returning for special events!

  • Liked — The entire experience was great!
  • Disliked — Pricey, but one receives value for the money; location not the best.

We spent the weekend of my husband's birthday at The Jefferson. It was, start to finish, the most lovely hotel experience we have ever had.

We checked in early, hoping merely to check our bags with the concierge before going out sight-seeing. Instead, we were given a room immediately, upgrading us to a suite and given a silver picture frame as a birthday gift from the hotel.

That set the tone of excellence we experienced throughout our stay and received from every member of the staff. We've never felt so pampered or appreciated as guests of a hotel anywhere.

From Jeanita, one of the concierge, to Tanya, a gracious waitstaff, to Rozell who drove us around in the limo provided by the hotel to Chas, our Bellman, who teased me mercilessly for bringing extra pillows. I have a bad back and am in the habit of bringing extra pillows for support rather than struggle with hotels for extra pillows, as is usually the case. Not here! Not only was the bed the most comfortable I've been in at a hotel, the staff will do everything in their power to cater to your every need.

The afternoon tea was a real treat, though book your reservation at around 3pm if you want to really enjoy the harpist who only played until 4:30 the Friday we were there.

The Sunday brunch in the Rotunda is a must not miss experience with a good jazz trio playing and an embarrassment of riches in food.

Almost everyone on the staff knew it was my husband's birthday...word really gets around...and he was presented with a slice of birthday cake more than once.

We were treated like royalty. This was the perfect choice for a luxury birthday getaway. I strongly recommend The Jefferson and thank everyone who made my husband's birthday so special. We'll be returning...only next time...we'll leave the extra pillows behind!

  • Liked — Hard to pick, but the service is excellent!
  • Disliked — A real spa would be an asset to the facility.
  • Tips/Secrets — Go visit the Hollywood cemetery, it's beautiful and close by!

We stayed at the Jefferson for a weekend in September for the second time. It is a lovely old hotel and the staff could not have been more pleasant. Although both times our rooms had a view of absolutely nothing but perhaps a brick wall, the rooms are clean and beautifully appointed. The beds are very comfortable. The only complaint I have is that we did not have the turn down service the second night. I suppose it was an oversight and it is certainly not the end of the world but it a pleasant amenity.
I will still here again.

This is a really impressive and beautiful hotel. I got a rate that was only a little higher than other hotels, and it was well worth it. The room was one of their less fancy ones, but it was really nice - gracious, a good size, very nice furnishings. The service was really attentive and courteous throughout. And the public areas are stunning.
