Great location across from capital. Staff friendly and helpful. We had a suite on the top floor at an excellent rate. I was initially concerned with the concept of the valet parking but it wasn't a big deal. The restaurant was fine for breakfast, but limited for dinner. There were plenty of restaurants a few blocks away so it wasn't a problem.

Breakfast was stewarded by James P. and the service was amazingly personal and caring. Thank you James P. for the great service. The rooms are comfortable and well cleaned. Very roomy with a large spare room used as a living or television room. The valet parking was very quick and the employees were all courteous and polite. The hotel is with in walking distance to fine dinning, pubs and shopping.

This is the second time I have stayed here for business. The hotel has an old Richmond charm with all of the modern amenities. Even has bidet's in the restrooms. The rooms are huge and very comfortable. The hotel is across from the Capitol with beautiful grounds. A great place to take a walk. They are pet friendly and very fair about the daily rate for your pet, $10.00/day...Some hotels charge $25.0 per day. Obviously a scam that other hotels have been able to capitalize and take advantage of us pet owners. The hotel staff are incredible and accommodating. You are minutes away from Shockoe Bottom where you can find restaurants, bars and shops. Every time I come to Richmond, this will be the place I stay!

Room Tip: If you are not accustomed to the city noise, request a room on the 10th or 11th floor. If you want...

The main reason why my husband and I chose this hotel versus others, is the fact that it is pet friendly, with no size limitation, which for our 70lb Australian Shepherd is quite important.
It was such a pleasant surprise when we got there though! Not only the hotel is very pet friendly (which is such a +++++ for us!), but the staff is incredibly nice, helpful and fast.
Our room then, was the biggest room we've ever had in this price range. We had a big bedroom with 2 double beds (okay, maybe they could change to queen size), with nice draperies and bed covers. Separated from the bedroom, was a nice, big living room with a couch and a chair, another tv, another writing desk and almost space to dance in it! The bathroom then was the biggest surprise! Not only, for being an old hotel, it was nicely remodeled, but it had a bidet!!! And Italians like me that live and travel in the US know how nice of a surprise that can be! It was the first time I've found a bidet in any hotel in the US.
The hotel is also conveniently located downtown Richmond, just across a beautiful park.
Absolutely a place I would recommend.

From the moment we walked in the front door and Cory at the front desk welcomed us, we have felt at home. We have an amazing view of the Virginia State Capitol, our suite is clean and comfortable and in the heart of downtown, within walking distance to the Civil War Museum and other sites (we're here for the museums). I would definitely come back.

The hotel room was very small and not at all the size that was pictured on the internet. The people that worked there were very friendly, knowledgeable and polite. The Restaurant's Chef (James P.) was an excellent cook and server;also very polite. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to walk in off the street and eat at that hotel restaurant. The food is awesome and Chef James P. was a delight.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have better views.

Our family of four plus dog had a nice stay at the Commonwealth Suites. It provided a good stopping point for our journey from NJ to SC. We were upgraded to a suite which was very spacious and offered nice views of the capitol building. Sights within walking distance. The area felt a bit desolate when we first arrived around 3 pm on a Saturday; by evening some streets nearby were more lively. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially the gentleman attending the restaurant.
