“A good stay although the check-in was a bit annoying.”
Reviewed 22 April 2011

We arrived at the hotel around 11:30 and they told us the room would be ready at 1:30 then when we came back they told us the room would not be ready till 3:00, although we had requested an early check-in. They were not in a hurry to accommodate guests who were waiting. But the staff was friendly and the hotel was clean and well appointed. The hotel is one of the nicer Sheratons we had stayed in. The afternoon staff was much nicer. We reserved 2 clubs room on points. The club lounge had a decent breakfast and had a well stocked fridge with soda, water, juices, milk and yogurt. The lounge was manned by Big John in the morning and Little John at night. Both very nice guys who made great latte. They were also very helpful about local sights, restaurants and directions.
The pool is very small and so is the gym, which had about 6 machines; 2 treadmills, 2 bikes & 2 ellipticals. However we did not see anyone there so it was no problem working out in the morning. All in all it was a comfortable stay and we enjoyed out excursion to Richmond.

This hotel is conveniently located at the heart of the city

Variety of food in the restaurant with a dirct kitchen service.

Open pool is an attraction in summer, however in winter it is of little use.

Cozy and comfortable stay in well appointed rooms

I stayed here for 3 nights with my 18 year old daughter for a soccer tournament and was pleasantly surprised. The room was very clean and the bed was wonderful. The staff was helpful and always smiling. The exercise room was not a disappointment and there is an outdoor park-like walkway in the back of the hotel with ponds - a great place to stretch your legs. I would definitely recommend this hotel especially at the price!

This was the second time we stayed here as our son lives in Midlothian. The hotel is very well located with an Applebee's across the parking lot and lots of shopping in the area including a large mall.

Beds are very comfy with down quilts and lots of pillows - one of the first places we've stayed where we didn't have to ask for more pillows. Breakfast was average - $12 for all-you-can-eat buffet or you can order off the menu. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Only problem we had was Saturday night it seemed to be the main hotel for a cheerleading competition and it was full of screaming 12-16 year olds and their parents. The fact that they were hogging the only four computers in the lobby and constantly in the elevators was not the fault of the hotel but the chaperones who seemed to be missing in action. It seems they accept pets since Sunday morning we woke up to yapping dogs in the hallway.

Free parking is nice as is the park like setting. Would be nice if they moved the smoking area away from the front door as even if no one is smoking there is a distinct odor coming from the ashtray devices.

We stayed at the Sheraton in Richmond for a couple nights -- we had gotten a good deal, and were put in the business section of the hotel... the bed was nice and clean and comfortable, though all the furnishings (tv, bed, chairs) seemed fairly old. There was a restaurant in the hotel, though we ate elsewhere during our trip. When I was sitting on the chair a thin piece of metal (maybe a nail?) scraped along my arm and cut me -- we told the man at the desk what happened, but he didn't seem overly concerned, so we just left it at that and were careful to avoid the chair. For the price, this was an okay place to stay, but we will not be going back.

Dear Valued Guest,
I want to thank you for staying at our hotel and I sincerely apologize for the challenge you experienced during your stay. As a Sheraton branded hotel we take great pride in striving to be a leader in the industry in the area of facilities and service. Clearly we did not reach that expectation during your stay. I have taken the time to review our furnishing's in all public areas and have addressed all issues noted. I do believe that we have corrected the specific issue you noted with the chair along with others. We have continued our renovation for improvement at the hotel as we lead into 2011 and feel confident that we are addressed all issues within the hotel. The total project is multi million dollar quest and we are well into the venture. We would welcome the opportunity to have you try our property for your future travel needs. Thank you again for your feed back and your business and I look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,

Paul Jordan

We made this reservation through Priceline, so we didn't know which hotel we were getting until after we'd paid. After reading the horror stories here and on other sites, we were pretty nervous. But thankfully, we found those negative reviews to be overblown or outdated, and our experience at the Sheraton Park South was fine. The room and bathroom were clean and in good shape, and the furniture appeared new. The beds were comfortable, with an abundance of pillows. We didn't use the restaurant or pool, but the lobby area was fancy. The hotel isn't in a bad part of town, and there are ponds and walking trails. The service was good, and they helpfully moved up our check-in time to earlier in the afternoon so we could check in when we got to town.

The negatives didn't make it a bad visit, but there were some. Most notable was the lack of complimentary breakfast. Even at the discounted rate we paid, we expect to at least get juice and pastries. The fire alarm went off early one morning, waking us up, but by the time we got outside it had turned off with no explanation. Our TV wouldn't change channels and the lobby Internet terminals wouldn't go online — neither was a big deal to us but would've been annoying if we'd actually wanted to watch TV or check e-mail. And the hallways were dirty.

Overall, we found the Sheraton Park South to be a perfectly fine place to stay. However, we should note that we're not the Sheraton's typical clientele — we tend toward the Super 8/Comfort Inn tier of hotels — so we might be easier to please. If you're a business traveler and are paying $120+ a night, you might be disappointed. But if you get this on Priceline (try bidding $60/night), you'll get a good deal.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Sheraton Richmond Park South hotel for your recent stay. I was delighted to hear that you enjoyed some of the many fantastic attributes of our hotel. In addition, I am very thankful that you shared your thoughts on areas of the hotel that could improve. As a team, we strive to be a leader in the industry in the area of facilities and service. It is clear that we fell short of that expectation in your case and for that, I sincerely apologize. We are taking dramatic steps to improve the facilities of our hotel with capital improvements over the current 3-year period of over $3.5million. All items have been changed, are in the process of improvements or are slotted for the near future. HD plasma screen TV’s, hallway renovations, and internet infrastructure are all included in this plan and some are already in progress and/or completed. We take great pride in being a Sheraton and Starwood product and that affiliation will guarantee that we continue to move forward and improve. I would welcome the opportunity to demonstrate the positive steps to you if your travels bring you back to the Richmond areas. Thank you again for your feedback and on behalf of the entire Sheraton Richmond Park South team we wish you the best for all your travels.

Sincerely,

Paul Jordan
