“disappointing, but, not unexpected”

extremely politically correct slanted view of Civil War.
Museum had very few real artifacts to look at, mostly visual notes and maps on wall
Very dark in building, could be much better

“Comprehensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

This Civil War Center covers significant history from the beginning of the U.S. and the issues that led to the war. Very comprehensive without bias to either side.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014 via mobile

We figured that a Civil War museum in Richmond would be amazing, and this was nowhere near amazing. Limited memorabilia, and most of the display cases had at least one item missing. Friendly staff, but you can watch videos and read text online without paying $8 each. It's more the history of the mill and African-American soldiers than a true Civil War museum. It just wasn't what I expected; the name was deceiving.

“Great Civil War museum for kids/teens....very interactive.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

This is a more modern museum design....meaning there are not as many artifacts and instead more interactive and eye-catching displays that your kids/teens will especially like. They also have several movies that are informative. This is great for those that like hands on activities and displays in which you can participate. Also, there is a nice gift shop on site.

“A must see if you want to understand the cataclysm that shaped this country”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

This site shares the Tredegar Iron Works site with the National Park Service. The NPS exhibits are free, there is a small fee to enter the Civil War Center. Both will validate your parking ticket. Tredegar was one of the few major producers of cannon, rail equipment, etc, in the South. The Civil War Center does an excellent job of interpreting the causes, and effects of the Civil War, going back to the adoption of the Constitution. You will see many multimedia displays and rare, historic artifacts that make the history much more real to people of today.
