Owner description: The American Civil War Museum is the nation's first museum to interpret the Civil War from Union, Confederate, and African American perspectives. Discover a new way of looking at our shared national history that explains much of who we are as Americans today through our signature exhibit, In the Cause of Liberty.

As a Pennsylvanian born in the south, I found the perspectives set forth in this museum fascinating. This was a great starting point for kicking off a tour of the battlefields and other historic spots not only in Richmond, but in Manassas and other points in Virginia, PA and Maryland as well. Well done,

Thank Linda B

A very interesting centre which explained the causes and issues of the Civil War. The films were interesting and just long enough to keep everyone engaged. The exhibits asked questions and got you thinking, this is a really good centre and being on the grounds of the Tredegar Iron Works you could easily spend half a day just looking at all of the sights and exhibits.

The museum had some good information, but it was somewhat confusing. One major issue I had were the artifacts are not numbered and the information explaining them are not in order with the artifacts...some artifacts were missing. Example....they information on the plaques was in reversed order of how they were displayed. Still not sure why they had a model care of the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee on display along with other things from today...bobble heads,a Gettysburg DVD, etc. It was not worth the $8.00 admission fee and paying to park..... Would not return....

It was a really hot day and the kids weren't enjoying walking around. Probably would have learned more (especially without them complaining) if it wasn't 95 degrees....

It was fascinating for me and my family, as northerners, to learn about the Civil War at this Richmond museum from the three perspectives offered: Northern, Southern and African-American. Fascinating artifacts, clear displays and engaging videos brought the history alive. The Confederate flags for sale were surprising, but the wide range of books showed an intellectual commitment to the many perspectives on the War Between the States.
