“Definitely will be back”

Didn't have much time the evening we arrived in Richmond, however we did walk the couple of blocks to the Capitol Building. It was beautiful and we will definitely return and take our time there.
Very impressive grounds and an absolute must see if you are in the area. Definitely want to take the tour others are describing here on Tripadvisor.

“Very impressive”

Very impressive buildings and grounds. We didn't take a tour inside as we were pressed for time, there was plenty to see and enjoy walking around the grounds.

“Take the guided tour - a must visit in Richmond!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

There is so much US History at this capitol - Thomas Jefferson designed the building! The only life-size statue of George Washington resides in this building. The guided tour is one of the best I've taken and you will learn so many tidbits of history that you won't touring on your own. Much of the state capitol's history is American history! Also, ask about the history of the squirrels on the Capitol grounds!

“Free and Worth the Time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

I liked that it was easy to get in and get a tour right away and the staff was friendly. The tour was a bit dry, but that's probably because it is usually for students and a lot of the information was pretty basic. If you know the history already, then I would just take the time to explore for yourself and forget a tour guide.

“Capitol building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

Short walk from the hotel is the Capitol building in Richmond. About a mile downhill from the Doubletree by Hilton. Direct but obviously back uphill on the way back! Splendid grand legislative building in classical style similar to a lot of government monuments found in Washington DC. Nearby is thetrain square containing the monument of George Washington. Square includes status of Edgar Allen Poe and a very powerful moment dedicated to the Civil Rights movement.
