Captain Buzzy's Beanery is a great place. It has an excellent ecclectic atmosphere. Yes, that means a little rustico, but clean and well lit. It has tables as well as a couple of couches for lounging. They have board games, magazines etc. All the coffee shop usuals except the ROAST THEIR OWN BEANS RIGHT IN THE STORE. They also have excellent food; sandwiches, salads, quiche, soup, bagels, muffins, cookies, chips and bottled/canned beverages. So if you are in Richmond and you live downtown or up on Church hill, Shockoe etc. you probably already know the place. If you don't and you like coffee you have to go. It is a couple of blocks from three of the most beautiful parks in Richmond as well.
If you are travelling through Richmond on I-95 this is your chance to avoid all the garbage that is on the highway. Coming from the North Use Exit 74B Franklin Street, go left on main (under the train tracks), left on 18th to Broad. Go right on Broad and Capt Buzzys is about 1/2 mile up broad. At the corner of 18th and broad there is a somewhat sketchy Exxon in case you need gas. Coming from the South take Exit 74 C. It loops around and turns into Oliver Hill Way and you go left on Broad. Getting back on 95 from Broad either North or South is VERY EASY. This is a recommendation for a breakfast/lunch stop only. If the weather is nice you can go to the park and picnic, stretch your legs and enjoy the most beautiful views of Richmond available. You also drive pass the church where Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death". All told you could exit the high way, use the restroom, gas up at the exxon, visit the park, see the views of the James and Richmond and be back on the highway in under an hour (unless you are travelling with small children). BEWARE!!!!! You pass a McDonalds at the bottom of the hill. DO NOT STOP THERE!!!!!!!
