2nd visit, we had dinner a few months ago and it was a very good meal,
stopped by on a Sunday, for brunch, and had an excellent meal
immediate service, very friendly staff, nice dining area outdoors (it was a cool summer morning)
the short rib hash is fantastic, very interesting, and tasty, dish,
we will be visiting again,

“go somewhere else”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

i would not recommend this restaurant unless you want bad service and a serving of nasty attitude from the owner, kitchen staff and host. the food is okay but if i'm going to spend my money, there are so many other wonderful places to eat without the nastiness that i've encountered, not once, but 3 times! every time i've gone in there, the place is completely empty- that's got to tell you something, especially on weekends, day or night. i can see why now. i don't expect this place to make it.
each time i've gone, i've called to check to make sure they're open as the hours say on their website. they say yes, i say i'm on my way. i get there and they don't want to work. they say they decided to close early since they weren't busy. i say i drove 20 min's to have a sandwich which they can't possibly make b/c the kitchen is now closed. meanwhile, the kitchen staff are all standing around like idiots. the host dude is the rudest restaurant "host" i've ever met. the 2nd visit i did manage to get food but it was not a pleasant experience. it's as if they don't want customers and they're getting their wish because i will never go back. it's aggravating and i go out to have fun not to deal with their prickly attitudes.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed 21 August 2013 via mobile

We had the most marvelous brunch! The shrimp with cheese grits and tomato knocked my socks off. My colleagues had the hash and eggs Benedict. Both of them raved. The credit card machine was on the fritz (connectivity) but they handled the situation perfectly. It is "hidden" in a new section on the James River called Rocketts Landing, just beyond Churchill.

“Dinner then went back for Brunch”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

Absolutely delicious is all I can say! We enjoyed our dinner of Ahi tuna last night so much we went back for brunch this morning and were not disappointed. I had the shrimp and grits and it was by far the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. My wife had the three cheese omelet and it was very good. You can't beat the food and the ambience is nice as well. Our waiter, John, was excellent. You won't regret a meal at this restaurant. We have eaten at both Conch Republic and the Boathouse at Rockett's Landing and while both were good, M Bistro is much better. The cost of our meal for what we got was outstanding! I had coffee and my wife had a mimosa plus our food totaled $36. You must try this restaurant if you haven't already.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

This was the first time we ate at M Bistro and were a little hesitant after reading mixed reviews. We are so glad we came. This chef knows what he is doing and we have eaten in a lot of restaurants. We had the special which was the Ahi Tuna with a skewer of shrimp over turnip whipped potatoes. We order tuna rare and it was superb!! The veggies were delicious as well. My wife had salmon with a brown butter and caper sauce that was great! We also had the BBQ and chicken flatbread for an appetizer and it was wonderful. Portion sizes were perfect. We liked it so much that we are going back there tomorrow for Sunday brunch. Go to this restaurant- you will not regret it!
