“Great restaurant!!”
Reviewed 18 April 2013

This is a great place to grab lunch - healthy food, lots of locals. It's tucked away off of the street so not obvious.

“Fresh and creative”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

The Citizen is open Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. Breakfast served all day. A small place with an open kitchen. The menu changes seasonally and they post a list of the local ingredients they are using. Pressed sandwiches include pulled pork, brisket, and butternut squash. The condiments are unusual but make for tasty combos. Sandwiches come with a side.

Other options include a couple of filing salads and a quiche variation.

One thing that makes this spot stand out is the vegetarian and gluten free options. Gluten free! Yay!

During nice weather, you can take your food to one of the outside tables. It's small and tucked away but worth a trip.

“Meh food, Rude staff.”
Reviewed 15 March 2013

The menu sounds more enticing than it acutally is. Food is decent but nothing to write home about. Parsley mixed in does not equal a Moroccan meatball. Rude Staff? Let me explain: I ordered a "bottled" water and was given a 6oz cup of tap water, I doubled checked with the cashier that I had not been charged for a bottled water and one of cooks had to chime in and say "water is free here," very sarcastically. I deduced if you're not a Rush-loving, Richmond scenester you're not exactly welcome.

“Nothing spectacular”
Reviewed 21 November 2012

Had the bacon and egg sandwich with grits. Honestly, the eggs tasted bland. Though the grits were good. If I were you, go to Urban Farmhouse instead (walking distance from Citizen) - better vibe and better food and drinks.

“Eat here!”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

I'm sitting here with a content feeling in my tummy, but my taste buds want !

Not because I'm not full, but because it was so great I want a "do over".

Have the SLIDER its similar to a Cuban, but on light flaky deliciousness (called bolillo-made by a local baker)..In fact everything here is locally sourced..I'M JUST PASSING THROUGH, BUT IF YOU LIVE HERE- COME AND COME OFTEN!

You're welcome in advance!

Huge thanks to the Jones family for this recommendation!
