I'd heard about Portico from the very beginning, and every time it popped up on my radar again I'd remind myself I needed to get out there. It took me long enough, but I finally made it, and I'm so glad I did! To start with, the atmosphere is divine, and that's important to me. I love the quiet, quaint setting with garden views. On our brunch visit the patio doors were wide open, giving us the best of both worlds-indoor a/c and outdoor feel. Our server was helpful from the start and gave us all the information we needed to be informed diners. We kicked our meal off with the brie appetizer. The warm, creamy brie, crisp crostini, and balsamic were a perfect combination, and we easily plowed our way through that plate by the time our Pizza Margherita arrived. Again, no disappointment there. The pizza was light, fresh and flavorful, with tomatoes and basil that tasted straight from the garden. Judging from the expansive display of plants behind the restaurant that may, indeed, be the case. It was plenty filling, but light enough to leave us well-prepared to dive into the dessert menu. I quickly fell in love with the Tartufo, a divine concoction of chocolate gelato rolled in hazelnuts and dusted in cocoa powder. This was definitely one of my most enjoyable RVA dining experiences, with a perfect combination of service, atmosphere and quality food. Can't wait to get back for more!
