The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a truly inspiring place to visit. Regardless of whatever (if any) traveling exhibit they may be showing, they also have a lovely collection of Faberge eggs, beautifully arranged rooms of various style periods, some lovely Chihuly glass, including red glass 'cat-tail' type pieces in a water bed bordering the tasty downstairs cafeteria where you can rest your feet and eat and delight your eyes all at once. There is a large parking deck on one corner of their block, and an interesting collection of things in the gift shop. Most exhibits are free, the staff is generally congenial and helpful, and the permanent collection is beautifully displayed in their light and airy building. They sponsor events such as a Flower Arrangement Show based on Museum Exhibit items, and even have concerts in the Marble Hall area, but even if they don't when you visit, it is worth the stop.
