All I can say about the VOMA is that it is well worth a few hours of one's time to visit it. Most of the exhibits are free, and the museum itself is comfortable. Docents offer tours (although the one we had was absolutely horrible, so we had to leave her after 10 minutes), and there are volunteers throughout to give information.

I would go back again and again.

One of the best small museums in the USA. Fantastic new addition to the museum was recently built. Very good restaurant and cafe - great place for a cocktail overlook the gardens. The museum owns the greatest number of Imperial Faberge eggs in the USA. Wonderful art deco furniture and accessories exhibit - beautifully exhibited. You will leave with something from the gift shop for certain.

From Faberge eggs and objects d'arts, through Englksh silver,
Roman jewelry, Egyptian artifacts and Chillhuly glass this museum has something for everyone. The displays of art in varlius media enhances their workmanship and is laid out in a manner that optimizes enjoyment. The collections provided by generous donors are of a high quality and the setting enhances their enjoyment.

We live locally and try to get to the VMFA as frequently as possible. The building, grounds, cafe, artwork, and special exhibits are all simply outstanding. We have seen Picasso, Elvis, Mummy, Chihuly and Faberge exhibits in just the last few years. I think there is a wonderful variety of artwork on a regular basis as well and love to spend an afternoon browsing followed by a snack in their delightful cafe. They have specialty sandwiches, side dishes, appetizers, baked goods, sorbets, coffees and even cocktails. If you plan to see more than one exhibit in a years time, then get the yearly membership. I would compare it to Busch Gardens or any other theme park where if you plan to go a minimum of 2 times in a season the membership pays for itself. The special exhibits can be pricey.

Plan to have lunch on the deck in good weather. Food is great - many choices. There is so much to see that you need to pick and choose. We started at the top and only got to see the third floor - guess that means we have to come back and see what we missed.
