Justly known as one of the greatest avenues in America, in the three times I have been to Richmond I see something new each time but I always return to drive along this noble avenue and stop to admire the magnificent monuments and the impressive houses. Parking is very easy so take time to enjoy the sites and the atmosphere of the place. Whilst all the monuments are impressive, the one of Robert E Lee [1890] still dominates all it surveys although my wife and I are very fond of the Arthur Ashe sculpture [1996] especially as he was so popular at Wimbledon. Don’t miss the Confederate Memorial Chapel which is just a couple of blocks off the avenue. It is good that the fabric of the neighbourhood is now preserved despite some earlier poor and inappropriate additions to buildings. If in Richmond, don’t miss this…

A great drive with fantastic monuments to commemorate fantastic people. The whole drive is a very good experience . The city gets a 10 out of 10 from me.

It's a lovely drive through what used to be the "high end" of the city of Richmond, the original "West End". It's beautiful, to be sure, but best seen with a local who can point out the various monuments as they are approached. The monuments are in the middle of the Avenue and typically in the middle of an intersection; hence, it makes it very difficult to get out and get close to them. But I always try to work in a drive down Monument Avenue with out-of-town guests.

The houses are just stunning along the avenue. The statues of southern generals are majestic even though in some way it seems they are monuments to people who fought in the wrong side of history. All together a great walk or drive in a sunny Virginian day.

The houses are incredible, especially during Christmas. Do not miss driving down Monument avenue to see the houses, and the monuments. If you have time, get out and walk a few blocks. Take your time to enjoy the architecture.
