This is a must do when visiting downtown Richmond. The houses are gorgeous, the boulevard street is lovely, and the monuments are huge!

You cannot visit Richmond without driving Monument Avenue and seeing all the statutes to the Confederate Generals and other Richmond notables. There was much controversy about the Arthur Ashe statute, so be sure to drive to the end to see it. The homes along Monument Avenue are spectacular. A must see in Richmond.

This is a great street to walk and take in Confederate Virginia history. You start on the east end with JEB Stuart and pass R.E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, Matthew F. Maury, and finally, Arthur Ashe. The avenue is bordered on both sides by beautiful homes/apartment buildings. There is a large grassy median that extends the entire length of the street.

We were immediately impressed with the grandeur and beauty of this neighborhood and the commanding presence of the monuments as we drove this historic tree-lined street. In a setting of quintesential Southern charm it a wonderful tribute to the glory of Richmond and the valor of the Confederacy and its heroes. We're so glad we didn't miss this!
