It's fun to stroll or drive slowly up this avenue. Every block has a different sculpture of an historical person along the middle island. Along both sides of the street are lovely homes - mostly all brick since clay is plentiful in this area. Worth looking at as well as the monuments. It doesn't matter in which direction you go since the monuments are in the center.

Friendly people, columns, front gardens, porches, and historical depictions all make for a leisurely stroll worth taking. However, uneven sidewalks keep your eyes moving to avoid a fall.

A drive down beautiful Monument Avenue is a must for a complete visit to Richmond. The beautiful tree lined boulevard is lined with architecturally beautiful homes and during June, the Crape Myrtle bushes bloom profusely, adding to the colorful beauty. Statues of Confederate heroes like Robert E. Lee and "Stonewall" Jackson as well as tennis great Arthur Ashe stand in the park-like center of the street.

If you are in Richmond it is beyond worth the time to enjoy Monument Ave. The monument, beautiful homes, kind residents and proximity to so many other attractions make this a don't miss. We chose to walk and were richly rewarded by a nice breeze and great opportunity to stroll hand in hand down the grassy median. With the Fine Art museum we had no choice but to stop by there as well and enjoy a delightful lunch at Amuse.

This quiet residential street in downtown Richmond is a hidden gem. It was designed and built in the late 19th, early 20th century and features many different kinds of architecture from Gothic churches to large Victorian looking homes and many other beautiful homes. It features mammoth sculptures of confederate civil war hero's J.E.B. Stuart, Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson sitting in Roundabouts along the street. The large grassy medians are perfect for taking an afternoon stroll to enjoy the architecture and sculptures. A definite must see while in Richmond.
