We enjoyed a pre dinner stroll up and down this boulevard, enjoying the statuary and the many beautiful homes. I agree with another reviewer that the nicest homes start around the 2000 block and go up to 3600 or so. Really cool to see so much variety between each home - I kept imagining what it would be like to stroll the street in the 20's and 30's!

The youth were excitied seeing the monuments as you drive down the road! Walking this road would probably be better because you could stop and read the monuments. Stone Wall Jackson, Robert E Lee, Athur Ashe to name a few of the monuments you will see!

The monuments are definitely worth a slow drive down Monument Avenue (or better yet on a cool day a walk).

If you have extra time in Richmond, navigate your way to Monument Avenue. While only 5 or 6 monuments, the street is very interesting. All the houses have great architecture along the street and it is worth a nice half hour stroll.

Monument Avenue is a great place to see Richmond's architecture and experience local food establishments. The monuments are a unique representation of Richmond's role during the Civil War and make Monument Avenue a well-known landmark of the City.

We visit Monument Avenue every December to look at the Christmas decorations that the residents use to adorn the exteriors of their homes. The festival of ribbons, ornaments, and lights warrants a walking tour...simply driving down Monument Avenue does not allow you to take in all that is on display. Although December 2013 was a disappointment - very few decorations were put out - I hope this was only a fluke and not a trend. They have become as much of a Richmond tradition as the monuments!
