“St. John's Church”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

We had a great visit to the landmark location of Patrick Henry's famous speech. We arrived just a few minutes after the last scheduled tour, but since no one else was there on that cold and blustery day, they did a tour for the two of us. Our guide was very well-versed on the history of the church and made it a brief but enjoyable experience.

“"Give me liberty..."”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

This church was the location of Patrick Henry's famous Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death speech, as well as continuing to be an active church. The visitor center staff were very friendly, knowledgable, and made us feel very welcome. The costumed interpreter was wonderful, spending extra time with us after the talk to answer our questions (it pays to go in the off-season when they don't have groups every half-hour). The cemetery itself is very interesting (Edgar Allen Poe's mother is buried there, as well as George Wythe). I thought at one point they provided walking tours of the cemetery, but that might only be in warmer weather. All in all, a must-see for a history buff going to Richmond!

“History you can touch”
Reviewed 8 February 2013

"Give me Liberty or give me Death" This is the place where Patrick Henry made his impassioned speech for independence and the formation of a new nation. Excellent tour with great interpretation of the events that transpired here.
