We arrived kind of late after going to the movies, but the staff made us feel welcome and we never felt rushed. Which was great because the first hurdle is deciding what to order -- everything on the menu sounds amazing and then there are a few specials! And some wonderful sounding drinks, too, but we settled on a glass of red sangria (made with red wine, tart cherry juice, clementines, and lime) and one of the local beers. For an appetizer we shared the roasted duck lettuce wraps with pineapple sauce. A little messy, but no need for more napkins because we licked every drop off our fingers! Next we had the EAT salad ( a large plate of beautiful fresh greens, strawberries, oranges, goat cheese) topped with grilled wild caught shrimp. And the lemongrass scallops with pureed sweet potatoes and bacon kale. Both dishes were outstanding! For dessert we shared the mango cake -- a not too sweet dense cake topped with fresh mango slices and a creamy lime sauce. Again, we licked our fingers clean! We can't wait to go back for brunch, but next time we will take a few more people with us, who we hope will share, so we won't be limited to having to choose only two entrees and one dessert!

We've been eating at this establishment for a few years, ever since it first opened under the Pescados name. Its since had a slight menu change and renamed itself to EAT. We go for Sunday Brunch alot as the crowds are light given its hidden away in Oregon Hill, and the food is one of the best brunches in town. I honestly believe these are the best fish tacos I have ever had, even after having a few adventures on the West Coast. The chicken and sweet potato waffle is to die for. Also the voodoo shrimp and the shrimp/grits dishes are also phenomenal and fan favorites. Its a good thing we go here several times a month otherwise, I wouldn't know which entree to choose!

Also, I want to say that the grilled zucchini is also quite tasty. We often find ourselves ordering an extra side dish of grilled zucchini, as well as the Ashland Grits, just b/c they're so tasty and a perfect complement to many of the brunch meals.

Enough of my rant, this is one the best 'secret' places in Richmond and don't think you can go wrong with any dish.

Pastrami served in small 3 cm squares about 6 mm thick circled around a pickled sauerkraut was a delightful surprise. I had no idea such a dish would be so good. Hidden away on China Street in the Oregon Hill section of RVA ,Eat is a delightful place to visit for a meal with its "Chromet Dinette" tables and funky art. My wife and I enjoyed a comfortable booth.

We ate here with friends and had a wonderful time. To start our Waitress was fantastic!!!! We had the hummus and fried cheese and sausage balls (can't remember the fancy name) and both were super. For dinner everyone ordered the vegan dish except my husband who had the fish taco's. The vegan dish was awesome and plenty to eat. The hubby raved about the fish taco and the jalepano salsa; saying it's one of the best around. The atmosphere is neat, everyone seemed happy and relaxed. We didn't have a problem with parking, but you do have to park on the street.

What a lucky find. EAT was a last minute save for a big group dinner and they really came through for us. Don't be put off by the non-hoity toity look. The fun walls with mermaids and surfers and giant sign that reads EAT could put off the less creative and the "suits" -- but they would be missing out.

First the menu's are a blast. You want to try it all: Lemongrass Scallops, Seafood Crepes, Duck Duck Goose, Risotto balls --- oh the risotto balls. They were incredible. Anyone who knows the Murderlady knows I love to eat -- but this place was wonderful. And the drink menu: Blueberry MoHEATo; MargarEATas: Blueberry or Guava Jalapeno; or the Laurel Street (vodka or gin with elderflower liqueur and sparkling wine). The bartender is a fine craftsman working with a "measuring straw" to get just the right proportions. Gold stars on the menu, the drinks, and mostly the attitude.

What a great staff - nice people - we met the bartender, the chef, the waitress and they were all great fun and very very nice. Then we ordered and ate and drank in this very eclectic little spot ... and it was wow!! It was the perfect spot for 16 artists & support staff who are inspired by the unique and unexpected.

If you are ready for something that is NOT your mama's cooking -- or the chef's next door -- this is definitely the place.
