Owner description: Colonial Shooting Academy is the Largest indoor shooting range in the United States! We offer THE premier shooting experience in Richmond, VA. Conveniently located on W. Broad Street, we offer a friendly, state of the art shooting facility for all skill levels, from curious beginner to expert marksman. In September 2012, Colonial Shooting Academy was named a 5-star shooting facility by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. This distinction makes CSA the first 5-star range in Virginia, the fourth on the East Coast and one of the only 25 nationwide. As Richmond's premier shooting facility—and the largest of its kind—our goal is to provide a welcoming atmosphere to anyone interested in shooting, whether you've got experience or not. Our first priority is safety. It's our guiding principle. It starts with education, and it ends with careful and precise planning of every detail, from the front desk to each shooting lane. Before you are able to enter the range, you must first complete a brief 10 minute safety video. This course is provided for free to everyone and is valid for one year. The course stresses the safe handling of firearms, and safety practices we require at all times while on the range. Additionally, we require that safety equipment be worn at all times, and that all guns and ammunition brought to the facility meet our specifications before it can enter the range. Upon entering, you will be accompanied to your lane by the range safety officer.

We visited this place again for the second time after coming down from anti-gun New York State. What an awesome experience. It is so cool to see a place so relaxed and friendly towards guns, while still maintaining strict safety standards and procedures. We rented two guns this time, a Sig Sauer P226 and a Beretta 92, and had a good experience with both. The guys working the rental desk were friendly and helpful and the range attendants were helpful and laid back as well. This isn't the most inexpensive way to pass time, but it sure is a fun way to learn about various firearms in a safe and responsible manner. It was worth every penny and I can't wait to do it again. This facility is new and state of the art with automated range deployers, bulletproof glass between each lane, and sound proof area that non-shooting friends and family can observe from a safe place. Two thumbs up for Colonial Shooting Academy!

Three of us (one of whom was a member) shot here recently. We are all experienced shooters and make it a point to visit ranges like this. Colonial is, hands down, the best we've encountered. Highly ordered, clean out front area, easy check in and loads of weapons to choose from. Desk personnel as well and range masters were helpful and courteous. Range was well lit with target transporters. We will make this trip again when back in town.

We went shooting at the Colonial Shooting Range as part of a business team building event. There were seven of us and they gave us a private range with 8 shooting lanes for an hour. We had our own range master and he was very helpful with the newer shooters. There is also a full retail shop out front and lanes specifically for law enforcement.

Our visit started off with a safety video…and then we were reminded of the safety rules all along the way. We were given training cards that are now good for a year if we go back. Our host brought a handful of handguns for us to try and we rented a couple of assault type rifles, including an AR-15. I thought the price was reasonable for the great fun we had. Some of our group had never held a gun before and they all were able to shoot everything we brought.

They entire operation seemed first class with the appropriate emphasis on safety. If you are looking for something different or new to do with a group, consider the private range option that allows you to reserve a lane.

Best range Indoor range I've been to. Excellent modern facilities - staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Very good range of pistols available to rent covering a range of calibres. CSA was the reason we visited Richmond - we expected it to be good but it exceeded our expectations. Can't wait to come back

This is the cleanest and most professional range that I have been to. There are several ranges to choose from and they are very flexible on the types of weapons that you can use.
