“Great bar with interesting character”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

Was in Richmond for a few days and went to the Cary Street Cafe before a show at the Byrd Theater just two blocks away. The staff was responsive, knowledgeable and friendly. The service was prompt and the food was good. There happy hour specials are great in both price and quality. Half-off appetizers from 4-6 on weekdays and $3 drafts from 3-7 on weekdays. The building is definitely kind of a dive but is still charming and has a lot of character.

“$9 for a draft beer”
Reviewed 27 April 2013

I've driven past this place a million times and I finally ventured inside last night. There was a $7 cover to get inside, not too thrilled about that. My friends wanted to order some food. The kitchen was about to close and the bartender lady wasn't being too friendly about it. I ordered a local draft beer and it was $9. So in twenty minutes I spent $16 on an IPA and poor service. There's nothing too exciting here. Richmond has so many fantastic bars and restaurants. This is not one of them.

“Nice little dive bar with decent food”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

We stopped here for lunch, on the fly. Sign outside said "Best Chili in Town", so we had the Chili. It was good, served differently than I'd had before, and was definitly filling! Nice selection of beers and good staff. This is a decent little dive bar with good food, that sums it up.

“Good for when you're looking for nothing specific.”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

I like Cary Street Cafe. It's not actually in Carytown (which is a plus in my opinion), but the location is still pretty good. Although, I usually have them deliver to me. It's nice to get delivery from a place that's not just a pizzeria or New York chinese take-out. Their sandwiches are decent, burgers are pretty good, and the wraps are good too. You can probably find better sandwiches, burgers, and wraps at other places, but honestly Cary Street is consistently solid. The people there are usually cool too. Very laid back. Also, one thing that Cary Street does that no one else does (to my knowledge at least) is deliver beer and cigarettes. I don't really drink or smoke, but I gotta give them points for that.
