Nice casual feel, great food and quick! You can sit on the counter or tables. We went on a Saturday a.m., and each and every table was taken but sitting at the counter/bar was not bad at all. There's also outdoor patio seating which is a no-brainer choice on a good weather day.

Plant Zero Cafe is located at 3 East 3rd Street in the Manchester section of Richmond. Hidden behind a green hedge in a warehouse area, Plant Zero Cafe is a delicious oasis. Unknowingly, my party arrived 10 minutes before closing but we were greeted in a friendly relaxed manner. We all ordered The Manchester, ciabatta bread, mozzarella, tomato, pesto mayo served with a salad or fruit. Not only was the sandwich DELICIOUS but the fruit was presented beautifully. I can not wait to go back and try the other menu items. (although I know I will be tempted to order The Manchester because it was that good! ) Plant Zero Cafe is off the beaten path but worth the trip. It's open for breakfast and lunch only. It's the perfect place for a ladies lunch, make sure to take time to browse the artist space in the adjoining warehouse. GO!

There was a time when I'd never heard of Plant Zero Cafe. Now, it's one of my favorite places to eat.

Tucked a little off the beaten path, at the corner of 3rd and Hull St just before you hit the bridge, Plant Zero Cafe is one of the hippest, most delicious restaurants in town.

Menu items range from a turkey club with bacon on a bavarian pretzel roll (you heard it right, a giant pretzel forms the roll for this sandwich...I cannot explain to you how delicious it is) to gyros with home made sauce, to smoked goude and red pepper soup. There are many vegetarian friendly items on the menu, and fresh baked goods are available daily at the register / coffee bar area.

Cafe style drinks are also available, with various flavors of coffee, espresso, smoothies, and lattes. The staff is knowledgeable about various drinks, and if you ask for something they've never made they will ask you to describe exactly how you would like it so they assure you are happy with your order.

Atmosphere is great, with local musicians playing over speakers at just the right volume, free wi-fi internet, and friendly staff. The owner is often found cooking behind the window, and when he has free time he will eagerly come out and mingle with patrons. Many know him by first name, and he knows many of their names and favorite orders.

Plant Zero is built on what used to be a loading dock, which has been heavily converted into the cafe. The upside of this is that during the summer, the garage doors (which are still present, quite a unique facet of this cafe) are often opened on summer days, allowing you the feeling of sitting outside without actually having to burn up in the sun. If you'd like ACTUAL outdoor seating, they have a narrow but long patio available with many tables and they have been known to set up tables around the fountain outside in the courtyard.

I have eaten at Plant Zero now more times than I care to count, and the ONLY complaint I have ever had was that occasionally food will take a long time to come out. However, this has always been during the lunch rush in which every single seat in the place was literally filled, so it is 100% understandable. While you wait, the waitresses will take good care of you making sure you have everything to drink you need. There is a small shelf of books which anyone at the cafe is allowed to take down and read for a bit, as well as magazines and the daily paper.

All in all I rate Plant Zero a 5/5 and would highly recommend it to anyone. If you can deal with a drive a bit towards the middle of the city and a little bit of walk from the parking (about 1.5 short blocks) then this is a place you absolutely should not miss.
