If you are Jewish and in Richmond, do yourself a favor and drop by Beth Ahabah. The museum is great and filled with local contributors to the American story, but the real treat is to go into the synagoge.

It is stunningly beautiful, especially in brilliant daylight where the sun shines through the ornate stained glass windows. The Bima is breathtaking and the ark positively glows.

The setting uplifts the soul.

Take some time to visit.

This small museum does an excellant job of chronicaling the history of Jews in the South, particularly during the Civil War Period. Although only consisting of 3 rooms this is clearly a labor of love by the congregation. Only an hour or so is needed. Be sure to see the inside of the synagogue.
